It's not about quantity at all, it's way worse than that. I would take 1-2 days of high quality teaching which would easily surpass what is being done currently in 4 days + 1 asynch day... The material is incredibly watered down, and honestly I don't believe it's due to DL.

That is true in all FCPS - some teachers are dedicated but others have zoned out. FCPS has just changed grading to cover up for all the Ds and Fs- it's not a school system you willingly want to come into at this point. And, yes- I do think that the unions with the school board support will push this out way past 2021-22. Expect hybrid at max, shortened hours and calendar.. and then at one point in 2022, a move to full-time but 4 days a week. They are conditioning the parents to expect less.

I have three kids and have experience with three different Vienna-area elementary schools due to a house move and placement in an AAP center. I have to say that Vienna Elementary is a wonderful, small community school! It is the only school where the front office and assistant principal know me from my minimal PTA involvement. When my middle child was having trouble, numerous teachers reached out to me to help. Also, the music teacher is probably the best in the nation!

Sounds like you Vienna needs some racial and socioeconomic diversity. It’s Our Greatest Strength (tm). Wouldn’t want you folks in Vienna missing out.

Why? Because it stays small?

Because it stays small and because there is no ridiculous division.

What's the grading that they changed for the D's and F's? Haven't heard.

Sounds like you don't know much about the Town of Vienna, which has properties ranging from the $500,000s to $2+ million, and low-income housing (across from Thoreau).

+1 Most of the low-income renters are Latino, not White.

“We have socioeconomic diversity - there are homes ranging from half a million to two million here! Plus some low income housing and I know I saw a Latino the other day ...”

Does Vienna look like America? Does Vienna look like Fairfax County? That’s the standard, right? Everything everywhere must be a microcosm of exactly the right percentages of everything, otherwise it’s evidence of systemic bias etc.

You guys are funny. I bet you vote for this kind of crap and then use your money to NIMBY yourselves out of it.

No matter - Vienna will not be spared from One Fairfax.

Diversity is Coming.

The new grading policy is actually standard at many post secondary institutions. The new policy is that no student will receive less than 50% regardless of whether or not the assignment was completed.

It is much easier to improve your score from
50 than 20. I am not sure what the big deal is other than some parents and educators having a punitive mindset.

Kids can still earn an F, but if they decide that they want to try, they have the ability to reach success from that 50.

This really is an equitable approach to learning for all students. Thankful that our county has finally entered the current century in best practices in education.

Set the grades bar low to show Fcps digs itself out of the damning report of ds and fs.. yes, this is why there is a change. Let's not think they are being altruistic.

Seems like this thread went off topic. Vienna Elementary is a fantastic school. If I had the chance to do it over, I would certainly send my children there. We have been pleased with the DL.

Any school in a wealthy part of Fairfax County is going to be great with a wonderful community and good teachers. Check the demographics, if it's 90%+ white then you're good.

Fairfax County ignores diverse/low-income schools.
