Weighted blankets useful?

How do you keep them clean? Machine wash?

There are a ton of options online. I bought one for about $80 from Amazon. I’ve been coveting a beautiful knitted weighted blanket that keeps popping up in my social feeds but it is like $200.

PP heathy thoughts your way! Is the anxiety of COVID or COVID worse? I often think my anxiety of having COVID might be far worse than actual sickness .....

Hope your weighted blanket gives you rest and peace !

Aww thank you. Covid feels like a bad flu to me. My anxiety is for my DH, who has risk factors for severe covid.

Can anyone post a link to the one they have and love?

I view weighted blankets as a very low hanging fruit assuming you aren't desperate for money right now. The potential benefit is big (better sleep! less anxiety!), and the only side effect is however much money you spent on it and the space it takes up in your closet if you don't like it.

I would be mad that he stole my blanket. Why doesnt he buy his own?

I ordered this one from Amazon--filled with glass beads: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17jdyyetOIknUv6SkiYIt3RguuvBUFndF0-F2pGxnnaM/edit#gid=242247887

With this cover which is nice and soft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3B5RGR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I saw some cotton covers as well. The blanket itself is not washable as I recall but the cover is. I ordered this smaller size to use on the sofa. I was a little worried about claustrophobia so ordered one a little lighter than the by-weight recommendation. The cover has little ties to anchor the blanket in. Otherwise it would ball up in the center.

I'd say it's a good investment if it can help you sleep or feel less anxious.

My advice, buy a bigger one than you think you need. I bought the smallest size because my husband didn’t want it on his side of the bed. The issue is it falls off me at night and it’s so hard to pull back over me. It also gets twisted, and I have to fully wake up an untangle it. I like it a lot, but I’m considering getting a bigger one.

This is also my question!
I’ve considered it for restless leg syndrome but I have the same claustrophobic/confined issue PP mentioned.

I’m claustrophobic and tried my dd’s weighted blanket. Absolutely hated it!

I don't have anxiety but I love mine. I'm a restless sleeper. I can't use it in the summer, though. I get too hot. DS 15 loves his, too. He doesn't have anxiety but he says he likes the weight.

Does restless leg syndrome mean moving around, kicking around, turning around on the bed? My young kids move around all the time every night, but they manage to sleep through the night. Do they have restless leg syndrome that I should get weighted blanket for them?

No, kids just move around a lot at night.

There are weighted pads that might be more comfortable for you. Even something small and heavy, like a hot water bottle, helps me relax and sleep.

Ok, thanks for reply. But, why kids tend to move around a lot at night? I don't move much while I sleep.

Well, I know that the weighted blanket is effectively used for many disorders, such as depression, anxiety and sleep disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as for children with autism. I'm actually healthy, but I have trouble sleeping due to the pandemic, so I've recently bought a weighted blanket to solve this problem. And you know, it works great because the weight of the blanket provides deep sensory pressure on my body, it promotes relaxation and improves my sleep. By the way, I can answer your question because I just found a great article on this topic, and you can learn how to wash a weighted blanket. I hope you find this useful.
