Florida had 11,234 NEW coronovirus cases in just one day... yesterday.

Of course it's from Thanksgiving. It can take 14 days to show up, plus there is a wait for test results.

On November 25, FL Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order that bans local governments from enforcing mask mandates. People are not wearing masks here. They know they can’t be told to, so they don’t.

My family is back to grocery delivery because it feels so unsafe to be out with so many people not masking indoors.

And? CA had 35,000 yesterday.

it is ignorant to cherry pick data and intentionally provide no context.

Which is absolutely insane, right? In Maryland, we view ourselves as mask compliant and Florida as COVID deniers. It is possible that they are hiding data, but the data we have puts Maryland in the same realm of COVID spread as Florida.

Because the numbers Florida is releasing are incorrect. This has been proven repeatedly. See the the Rebekah Jones thread in politics.

Curious why you would taker Rebekah’s word over the state of FL?

OP is correct.
I just looked at the chart and even in the weeks before Thanksgiving, there were many days that they had 10,000+, 9,000+ and 8,000+.

That vm could be attributed to Halloween, but even before Halloween their numbers were really high in the 7,000 - 9,000 range.

I just think there are a lot of very ignorant people who live there, who think the rules don't apply to them or that they're immune.

I live in Florida - the governor is encouraging people to behave as if there is no virus, and he has since day one. To the extent anyone takes cues from those in charge, DeSantis has a lot of blood on his hands.

Luckily in my city we have leadership that is at least trying to keep us alive. But that is not the case in a lot of the rest of the state. It's really baffling, and awful.

He is digging a hole in the sand and encouraging the to keep their head in it.

This crisis is a huge lesson in the importance of wise, unselfish, courageous leadership (or the lack thereof)

it is also possible that it is an aersolized virus that is largely unaffected by 3 layers of cloth with pores much larger than itself.

FL is not hiding data, that’s a complete fabrication. They were not providing certain cuts of data early on, for example they would report hospital bed or ICU utilization, but not break that down by Covid vs. not. There is no underreporting of Covid cases or deaths in FL. Also, excess death data is readily available in the CDC website. FL has done surprisingly ok ogiven how much of its population is 65+ and lives in packed retirement communities.

Given the weather that allows people to interact outside, FL could be doing so much better than MD. it’s really unfortunate that the warm states aren’t taking more advantage of their weather.

+1 same for some hospitals under reporting

Per capita their numbers aren’t so high. Florida is huge.

It absolutely is. Remember numbers are only based off people testing so there is a lot more than stated.

This. Not everyone in Florida is a moron. I’m sure a lot of the seniors there like being alive and their nice weather is allowing them to socialize outside where it is safer.

Did they send armed men to the house of anyone collecting COVID data?
