Different school, different school boards ... this thread is about Thomas Jefferson elementary in FCCPS, not the high school in FCPS

So they should actually work on undoing that mistake. But how would the city go about doing that? Everyone's up at arms when an apartment is zoned anywhere in NOVA.

Why do we use names at all lets just use colors or animals or something? Our time could be better spent elsewhere.

It's fine, the names should definitely be changed. Just do it already and stop surveying.

It would exclude those who are color blind and animals are violent competitors...

What do you think? FCCPS released a survey and less than 30% were in favor of a name change. The school board unanimously voted to change the names of the schools so students feel safe and supported.

I thought the FCPS board lost site of what’s important with their agendas. It looks like it is everywhere. Families are in limbo with return to school plans and record high covid numbers. They are focusing on name changes.

Don't care. Besides plenty of other homages to these two elsewhere . . .

I do not understand this perspective. Our country would not exist as it is without these people. Would you prefer to still be a British subject?

This is more important than COVID right now.

Yes, PP prefers to still be a British subject, that's exactly what they meant. Great logic and comprehension skills.

Her logic skills are better than the first PP's.

I live in FCC, my kids go to FCCPS, and will go to TJ soon. I am thrilled that they do not need to go to school in a building that revered a man who raped a 14 year old girl, had 6 children by her and refused to even free them. It's sickening. I'm thrilled that voices of black people in our community were heard. The board was clear that this is not about historical contributions but about about our values.

It was primarily the voices of white people wanting to demonstrate their solidarity without any real sacrifice on FCC's part. Carry on.

+1. Where is the movement to expand the boundaries of FCCPS to include areas districted for Justice HS? Or other low performing schools nearby? That wouldn’t be easy but could arguably help more kids. That’s not happening. It’s much easier to change your name to say you did something.
