I think this was sarcasm. Or, I hope so. |
I responded to this poster, and I do think she was trying to say in a sarcastic way that both sides have an agenda and are twisting the facts to their advantage. Which I think is just another case of whataboutism and not supported by data. |
I thought they were mocking those who would read all this and still say such a thing. Maybe they will clarify. |

There is no evidence anywhere at this late stage in Covid that schools are a source of outbreaks.
It is pathetic that the DMV, a fairly well-educated part of this country, is so far behind the facts on this. Hell, even WaPo opines that kids should be back in school in person. What is clear is that all of this "close the schools" theater is due to politics. And a big "no" to the equity argument - instead of getting a plan together to get kids back in person, public school districts deflect their failures by lobbying for all schools to be closed. Insane. |
| I get the positive people didn’t get it at school but that doesn’t mean it can’t be transmitted once they are there in higher numbers |

Dr. Fauci, speaking today: "Given the level of infection we’re seeing in schools, it doesn’t appear that the risk to teachers isn’t any greater than they would just being in the community."
"The number and percentage of children getting infected (in school) is less than you would have expected. That’s really good news for keeping he children in school In general, it looks like we can keep the children in school and get them back to school safely." https://twitter.com/LizSzabo/status/1336767878478114817 |

Are you being sarcastic? What’s wrong with: - collaboration between DCPS and relevant stakeholders - clear COVID metrics to guide closures and quarantines - transparent goals - random testing regimes in schools That’s what her bill is calling for? I’m a DCPS parent and I support all of these things. |
Not at all sarcastic, what she is proposing will delay in person learning and almost certainly ends any hope of students returning to the classroom during this school year. I'm glad you have the luxury of time and distance learning is going well for your family. |
Edited to add... it makes sense though that she is the one introducing the legislation since she's in charge of the Education Committee. Oh wait, that's right, she's in charge of the Labor Committee. |
Who is in charge of the education committee now that Grosso is gone? |
The Council needs to be asking DCPS what it needs and giving it to them; not creating a gigantic mess of uniformed red tape and hoops for DCPS to jump through to reopen. Collaboration forced through legislation never works. Setting thresholds for reopening in statute and giving a fixed numbers of classrooms that can be open is a terrible, terrible idea. The idea that SCHOOLS are going to be subject to this kind of legislation while bars and restaurants open willy nilly is just frankly crazy. This is bad, bad government, folks. The fact that Councilmember Silverman is spending her time on this bill as opposed to working like mad to remediate learning loss, is just shameful and frankly embarassing for her. |
