This is the worst sign, courtesy of Elissa Silverman: https://www.elissasilverman.com/dcps_discussiondraft
Are you being sarcastic? What’s wrong with: - collaboration between DCPS and relevant stakeholders - clear COVID metrics to guide closures and quarantines - transparent goals - random testing regimes in schools That’s what her bill is calling for? I’m a DCPS parent and I support all of these things.
The Council needs to be asking DCPS what it needs and giving it to them; not creating a gigantic mess of uniformed red tape and hoops for DCPS to jump through to reopen. Collaboration forced through legislation never works. Setting thresholds for reopening in statute and giving a fixed numbers of classrooms that can be open is a terrible, terrible idea. The idea that SCHOOLS are going to be subject to this kind of legislation while bars and restaurants open willy nilly is just frankly crazy. This is bad, bad government, folks. The fact that Councilmember Silverman is spending her time on this bill as opposed to working like mad to remediate learning loss, is just shameful and frankly embarassing for her.
