Ladies - Is a 2 carat too big?

Anonymous
Mine is 2 1/4 (inherited from my grandmother) and it doesn't look too big on my hand, nor did it look large on hers (and she was petite). It's in a subtle setting with side baguettes.

Solitaire, or total? For my taste, it would be too large as a solitaire.

It totally depends on the recipient's tastes! It is big, but I wouldn't say it's too big.
I notice and admire big diamonds, but I have a 1 carat solitaire and it's perfect for me - I like to wear my ring every day, and I do a lot of activities with my hands so wouldn't want a bigger stone getting caught on things all the time. I'm also not a showy/flashy person (no designer bags, shoes, etc.), but someone who is would probably love a 2 ct (or bigger!).

Why not? Personal preference. Why would you care what old biddies here think?

Sounds fabulous!

I have small hands (ring size 4.25) so would not love it.

I think it depends on the woman. I don't like wearing rings and stopped wearing my 1 carat years ago as it bothered me, I don't even wear my wedding band. I only wear them to my husband's family functions (which haven't happened lately obviously). My fingers tend to fluctuate in size, swelling and shrinking.

We're the same person. I also will wear my ring if I'm going to the kid's school for something but when I get home I take it off again

Depends on you (or your GF). I have a 2 ct ring and medium size hands. I hate how flashy it looks. I am a social worker and I can't imagine wearing my ring to work. If I'd gotten something smaller then maybe I could have worn in it. But what I received has been sitting in a safe for the past 10 years. And will remain there until a big gala or smt.

Yes, it's too big. It's not worth it. People even judge my 1 ct ring sometimes. People will definitely assume things about you if you have a 2 ct ring, and they probably won't be positive.

Too small - Cheapskate

OP, are you the guy who's getting engaged to your girlfriend of one year on New Year's Eve?
If so, I'd think it would be easier for you to keep or consolidate these questions into just one of your threads.

Anyway, mine is 2.85 center stone (princess cut) and 1 carat each of trillions on either side.
It's not ostentatious because the stones aren't set high, so it doesn't look flashy.

Also, my center stone is deep.

The biggest thing you should be looking for is quality, quality, quality, NOT size.

You NEED to keep in mind the 4 "C".

cut -- color-- clarity -- carat
Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat weight are the qualities that come together to define the unique beauty of your diamond.
The 4Cs also determine the value of your diamond.
While all of the 4Cs are essential, each individual has her own opinion on which C is the most important to her.
To some, the quality of the carat may be more pertinent than the cut of the diamond, while others favor the color of their stone compared to its clarity.
Understanding the 4Cs and understanding your preference can help you choose the diamond that suits both your lifestyle and your budget

Not being snarky but what would people assume?

Like high heeled pumps.

Is this what you tell yourself because you have a crappy ring? Diamonds will always be in. They will never go away. Women love diamonds.
