The real tragedy is that he would have survived had he not attended the SYC-Arlington State Cup game, which apparently resulted in the deaths of entire families as well.

When he came a long the game was very physically in a brutal way. They did not protect players like they do today. It’s like watching those NFL films from the ‘60’s. He changed the game by himself.

Apparently he had a heart attack around '04 from an overdose. He got clean after that but had another one around 06/07 where he almost died. The body can only take so much.

He has said that soccer did not become brutal until he was transferred to Italy. He said they played soccer different (more cut throat injuries) than in other parts of the world.
