Sidney and Adelaide for b/g twins - settle our debate

When we were expecting b/g twins my husband really pushed for these two as names. One had a family meaning and we honeymooned in Australia so he thought it would be great. We ended up naming our twins something totally different but once in a while this comes up as a joke. What think you, DCUM? Sidney and Adelaide, yay or nay?

Good grief. That's just as stupid as Brooklyn and Bronx or Cheyenne and Austin.

What asinine names.

Because you're stupid.

Pretty terrible. Why not just name them Kanga and Roo?

It's a great joke, but don't make your kids' names jokes.

+1

And I actually like Sidney as a boy's name, and Adelaide as a girl's name. But don't make your kids' names a joke or a gimmick.

I have twins and I hate this. Don't do this to your kids.

If it was two girls it wouldn't have been so bad.

God awful. Both names are fine individually, but are you going to have a third kid named Perth? Melbourne?

It was originally a male name, but has been coopted as a female name, like so many others: Courtney, Ashley, Whitney... Soon there won’t be any male names left.

boo hoo. Cry me a river. boy tears lol

I'm glad this is after the fact so I can be honest: those are terrible names. Laughably bad.

for jerseyites on here---when I was pg with b/g twins we joked that we would name them Clifton and Passaic.

Naming a boy Sidney is a terrible thing to do. Ugly as hell.

I have a guy friend named Courtney and he gets teased a bit. He's a grown up and can handle it and it's not a big deal to him but just wanted to put that out there.

How about Cyd for the boys name and Adaline (Addy)? Enough to have meaning for you and your husband but not gimmicky.

Love Adelaide, not Sidney

Adelaide is lovely (since the place was named for a person) but Sidney would be rough on a boy. Darwin or Perth would be unusual and quirky but at least not immediately (and probably permanently) misgendered...

It’s over. Twins are here and the have parents chosen different names. OP posted this to...I don’t know. Show her husband how many people hate the combo and thank god they didn’t go with his original choices?
PS- OP, glad you didn’t go with this. The combo. The names by themselves are fine. I think a lot of people would assumed Sydney was a girl.
