What can I do to help the Georgia Senate races?

However, I do think that because of the Great Migration, there are "later"-arriving AA families from the South that sound similar in Detroit or Flint to Georgia. Until you ask them to "pop" or "party store" or "orange" and then the vowel-less Michigan accent comes out strong.

I’m from north central Ohio. I don’t sound Appalachian. Some of my friends from Michigan have accents that are indistinguishable from mine. We basically sound like every news anchor across the country.

There's familiarity in experience. Even starting off the conversation with 'I grew up in so-and-so' helps thaw the ice. Aside from that - as a Southerner I can turn my accent on and off.

Funny you mention it - Stacey Abrams was born in Wisconsin. She came to Georgia for college and stayed. Before that she was in Mississippi for grade school.

I agree that outside efforts -- phone banking, texting, and even postcards and letters -- might backfire. I'd love to see some research done on this. I did all of the above (for Biden and senators and reps all over) and now wonder if it was more harmful than helpful. I plan on donating money to help out in Georgia, and possibly traveling down there and helping in person (I'm originally from Georgia but now live in the DMV).

Because federal contractors are continually soliciting new contracts from the federal government and donations could be construed as bribes for future contracts.

DC isn't a state and it's under the control of the federal government. It should really just be part of maryland.

You’re saying the poor Georgian shouldn’t have to feel the same way the majority of the country did when McConnell wouldn’t give Merrick Garland a confirmation hearing? Or the way half the country felt when Trump wasn’t removed from office by the Senate? Or the way the majority of Americans felt when McConnell did nothing about badly needed covid relief because he was too busy ramming ACB‘s confirmation through at the last minute? This isn’t about feelings. It’s about the wellbeing of the US.

It's everyone's business at this point, but I echo the sentiments about phone banking from out of the state / south. I think donating to Fair Fight would be more helpful.
