Schools can open too. They were given the green light before sports.

Just because they can doesn’t mean they will.

its this. Gov Northam allowed for the opening of schools. Numerous school systems across the commonwealth have opened. Fairfax/Arlington, etc refuse to allow schools to open. That's on them.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad the governor signed off on this. Unfortunately the individual school districts have to sign off on this as well. So it’s not like sports are just on in northern Virginia.

Exactly. There is no reason to be up in arms about allowing sports to start. Personally I’m glad for those students who have been in school buildings as permitted in VA and I’ll be happy for those who will be able to partake in their sport.

Not me. I don’t want sports (especially indoor contact sports!) until there is school. Get your priorities straight people.

The more normal things are allowed to happen the greater the impetus and pressure on the school systems to get back to real, 5 day a week school.

school is okay for all per northam, now sports is- doesn't mean fcps will follow suit. a few more days of 100 plus cases won't help

And where the heck is he and VDOE? Do they not realize the sh*t show that is not only NOVA but the states largest district? Why are they not offering more guidance or help or a push to open???!

I hope sports happen but it’s hard to believe basketball and wrestling will. I wish the clubs and fine arts were able to make that work too and it wasn’t so divisive.

We are swimmers but even that is dependent on Rec center rules so it won’t be normal either.

That’s not what I said. I was saying students are allowed (as they have been for a while) to be in school now and I am happy for those who are able to do so.
Now students will be able to do sports and I’m glad for them. I didn’t say sports should come before school.

All other states are having school and sports.
Va kids are going to be at such a disadvantage for college in so many ways.

I fully expect Fairfax county to block this

Why can’t your child contact others in the club to get together outside of school? I am club sponsor and this is volunteer. I’m not paid and I’m not working in the building. I can’t drive there to organize a group on my own time. I don’t have time right row since I’m busy with my own young kids that are home. As a parent, there is nothing stopping you from organizing a social event for your kids that doesn’t involve school.

What do you mean? Schools have been allowed to have students since the summer. This follows ~5 months later.

^^^ This. Stop complaining about clubs not being able to meet and instead just organize a meet up. Offer your front/backyard. Or meet up at a local park.
