I understand your point. To me, this particular incident is not so clear cut, though. He was riding a scooter without a helmet, apparently fleeing from police. He crashed. It's awful, no question. Should MPD have stopped him in the first place? Maybe not, sounds like it may have been a pretext. Was MPD negligent in causing his death? Maybe. Is it the same situation as George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or any of the other POC who have been killed by police? No. |
In most cases it's not 100% the fault of one party or the other. Anyone can try to find some fault in the victim's behavior in any case. But we don't control individuals. We do control the police as an arm of the government. That's where we should focus our attention. And we can't wait for only the most clear cut cases. This guy's life mattered too. |

Mayor has to go, but not for this issue. This kid was taking a risk, and he lost with his life. It is what we call natural consequence.
I don't flee from police, I wear a helmet, I obey the traffic laws, and would not ride a scooter in a reckless way. Sucks, but I side with the police here, even if he were being followed by them. In fact, I wish there was more police pursuits as long as they could do so in a careful way to avoid injuring the innocent. Meaning speeds would need to be limited and reckless driving prohibited by police. this is not Hollywood. You can follow someone and keep an eye on him while calling for backup. They do it all the time. |
"He wasn't wearing a helmet!" Jesus, listen to yourself. |
