- Zero response with Brightwood protest - Zero accountability for the pre-emptive gassing of residents during a planned protest - Zero accountability for the escalation of a non-violent exigent situation by 4th District MPD - Facts: The deceased was 19 years old The deceased had no criminal record The deceased was not intoxicated or high The deceased was going home The deceased had stopped, gotten off the scootter at 5th and Kennedy, and asked cops why they were following him Witnesses watched the police escalate the situation. Will you be silent? |
| Duh! |

Cool, we'll get right on that...in 2022 when she's next up for reelection.
|
Where are these FACTS coming from. I had not heard this yet? I thought that he was fleeing MPD on the sidewalk. Did not know that he had stopped. Did they release the video tape finally? Is that where we are getting this from. Got to love the video tape. |
This is laughably untrue. Search his name in the publicly accessible online DC and Maryland court-case lookup and you'll see a lengthy rap sheet in both jurisdictions. At the time of his death, he was under stay-away order over a domestic-violence incident in Rockville. |

I agree Bowser has got to go.
I look forward to voting in ‘22 on that front. I also think we really need to see the video of the incident with the scooter accident. There’s lots of questions unanswered that may significantly change the public’s opinion on the event. |
| The kid was riding on the sidewalk and could have hit a pedestrian. He was unhelmeted. The police intervened to help, not hurt IMO. Unfortunately there was a tragic result, but its one his choices led to. There is such thing as right/wrong and good/bad decisions. Awful situation. I wish the male brain was wired to not be so teen-aged for so long. The best thing we can do as a society is provide opportunities for young men to be productively and gainfully busy, as well as have consequences from the get go that they can learn from in a lower stakes way so they dont put themselves and others to higher and higher risk. extremely sad, will wait til facts are out, but so far its really not looking like police are at any fault. |
That was a different Karon dummy. Karon Brown is a VERY common name in this area. There was an 11 year old by the same name killed last year and another killed a few years back. |
Apologies. Yes pp, you are right. He did have cases in Superior Court. Most recent charges filed were on June 2 of this year... Most recent charges, 3. - Assault on a Two Police Officers and Resisting arrest.- Officers listed on the public record as assaulted by the deceased are Emmannuel Hardy and Scott Gaumond. Before that May, Fugitive from justice... case was dismissed in August Before that 30 days in jail and a 50 dollar fine for possesion of drug paraphanalia Before that , at the age of 17 years, charge: threats to do bodily harm. case resulted in being dismissed. Sorry , no evidence of being a criminal. |
| The primary issue is overpolicing and proportionality of response. Police violated the no-chase policy in pursuing him. Had they backed down per the policy, he'd be alive. |
The minor infraction was completely blown out of proportion. |
|
^what a fine upstanding citizen.
We are castrating our police. |
Truly the disappointment with Bowser is the REPEATED lack of accountability for police response to protests. GASSING and SPRAYING should NEVER be used in residential neighborhoods! |
| I agree that Bowser is proving to be ineffective in many ways, but I think there is a lot of information about the scooter accident that we don't know. I'm not sure how you can argue that the police are responsible for him crashing the scooter. There are a lot of intervening factors here and the dots don't quite connect. This doesn't seem to be akin to other situations where the police are directly responsible for killing someone. |
Think about spending time with people who understand what it's like to be harassed by MPD then come back and tell us what you think. |
