DC after the election?

OP here. I guess what I’m “worried” about is what happened in my neighborhood again last night.

“Election violence” won’t just be about election results. It will be about everything. And there are a lot of things.

OP
I asked this a few weeks ago and was almost universally ridiculed for thinking of leaving:

He is going to be at the White House. He has cancelled his party at the Trump hotel.

Did he cancel it, or did the mayor's implicit threat to pull the hotel's liquor license for holding a party for so many people cancel it?

My office is about a block from the White House. The firm management is shutting down the office and telling everyone to stay home Tuesday-Thursday. Plywood has come up on the ground floor of the building.

If Trump loses, I don’t think there will be any issues. If he wins, there will be riots.

I don't get the ridicule. I know a lot of people leaving town for the election.

I'm nervous about what would happen in DC if Trump somehow wins. People will freak out.

All the shops boarding up is a smart move.

My office in West End just wrote that they were closing and boarding up. Our neighborhood CVS (nowhere near downtown) just boarded its doors and windows.

If Trump loses, and he continues to demand that the election be decided the next day or before ballots can be legally and completely counted, I’m sure that his “poll watchers” will not be gentle in their response. It’s easy to imagine Trump fanning the flames — since there will be no costs to him for doing so. While I don’t know how many people meeting this description will actually be in the DC area, I can imagine that it might be a few — particularly since they may have had options to vote by mail — before coming to support their Fuhrer. I hope I’m wrong, though.

I keep getting texts from out of state family and friends asking me if I’m worried. To be totally honest, i haven’t even thought about it. If I lived in a red state, I would be worried.

Are you kidding? If Trump loses, there will be an influx of Proud Boys to protest a stolen election...

Same, though I’m not sure it’s just red states that should worry.

I don’t worry about protesters in DC and never have (especially since I’ve been one of them). Sometimes protests get intense, but that is always driven by confrontations with the police or counter-protesters. The people leading the protests in DC are also very experienced at handling those confrontations.

Sure, there are people who may try to take advantage of the protests and loot or damage property. But even during the most intense protests I’ve seen, this is minimal and driven by a tiny group of opportunists.

I do worry about what militias, white supremacists, and associated groups, will do. I worry about Portland, about segregated cities in the Midwest, about Texas. Not just red areas but blue cities in close proximity to these groups.

I don’t think DC is particularly vulnerable, but Richmond and Charlottesville might be.

Yes this is what I meant. I guess I should say I worry about the violent right. The left has peaceful protests with wordy signs.

Are there actually a noticeable number of Proud Boy types in the DC area? I feel like we have some Nazi-intellectual types but they are better at getting punched than actually fighting. Repugnant, yes, and dangerous on a different level. But not pack up and leave.

Now Portland is another story. They have a lot of Proud Boy types just itching to fight.
