I keep getting texts from out of state family and friends asking me if I’m worried. To be totally honest, i haven’t even thought about it. If I lived in a red state, I would be worried.
Same, though I’m not sure it’s just red states that should worry. I don’t worry about protesters in DC and never have (especially since I’ve been one of them). Sometimes protests get intense, but that is always driven by confrontations with the police or counter-protesters. The people leading the protests in DC are also very experienced at handling those confrontations. Sure, there are people who may try to take advantage of the protests and loot or damage property. But even during the most intense protests I’ve seen, this is minimal and driven by a tiny group of opportunists. I do worry about what militias, white supremacists, and associated groups, will do. I worry about Portland, about segregated cities in the Midwest, about Texas. Not just red areas but blue cities in close proximity to these groups. I don’t think DC is particularly vulnerable, but Richmond and Charlottesville might be.
Yes this is what I meant. I guess I should say I worry about the violent right. The left has peaceful protests with wordy signs.
