Is this costume PC?

I wouldn't do it. Many Black people would be offended, and I would avoid.

Wait, why would black people be offended by someone dressing up as a Greek Egyptian? I'm unclear who exactly would be offended except for Karens pissed off that Larla over there could pull off the sexy Cleopatra costume they couldn't.

My guess is using Black skin toned makeup to darken the skin to appear Egyptian. Even though Cleo was Greek.

OP here. Thanks for the interesting discussion so far. It will only be a costume from amazon. No makeup.

More detail from another thread about this. Cleopatra's maternal ancestry is unknown, and this half may have been indigenous. So it is not a simple "she was Macedonian Greek" answer:

"Yes it is her maternal line that is in question as to being indigenously African or not. Apparently, her sister Arsinoe IV who was Queen of Egypt after Cleopatra VII is maternally of African ancestry so then Cleopatra VII could be part black herself if her remains proved that she too had an indigenous mother. [you can google evidence for Arsinoe's ancestry]
Also, lots of the Greco-Romans were of mixed African ancestry and the longer the Ptolemies were in Africa; the more they would be just like Africans in Europe. This is why the Faiyum funeral shrouds of the elite classes show white and mixed African race people and these were the elites. Ptolemy was a national/empire entity that included Western Asian and African admixture especially in Africa."

The lack of specifics about Cleo's mother, despite Cleo's fame, has been interpreted by some historians to suggest she was indigenous.

You totally should have "Walk Like and Egyptian" playing from your phone the whole night. As long as you don't run into some 2500+ year old pharaoh, you should be OK from the PC stand point.

the same reason white people go nuts when someone dresses up as a black or american Indian person. they are looking for a reason to be offended and no one can have fun anymore.

It’s also possible her mother hightailed it out of Alexandria ASAP. Those Ptolemies really liked to murder each other. Cleopatra VII offed Arsinoe and her bro.
