Cleopatra? |
It's fine but somebody will find something to freak out about it. |
Just clothing costume?
How about with makeup? Wig? Darkening your natural skin tone? |
Don't darken your skin. Historians think that Cleopatra was Macedonian Greek. |
Will be a problem for the gender neutral set. |
Cleopatra was a Ptolemy. She was Greek. Maybe it’ll piss off Greeks as cultural appropriation?? Everyone finds everything offensive. |
Fine |
Absolutely not. Literally thousands of non racist costumes out there and you think of this one? |
How is dressing like cleopatra racist? |
Greek here. Meh. I don’t care about costumes. However, I am annoyed when people say they are Greek, refer to a Greek sibling and are talking about fraternity/sorority. That bugs me for some reason. |
Yes it’s fine just don’t “walk like an Egyptian” |
It's fine. Dressing like a specific historical person isn't racist (assuming you don't do something stupid like darken your skin or rely on inaccurate and offensive stereotypes about how people looked/dressed/etc.) Also, Cleopatra was Greek, not Egyptian. |
We know Cleo was Macedonian Greek through her father's line, but her mother's heritage is unknown. Much speculation about a different racial lineage through the material line. So an open question, and why many are sensitive about it. |
