Any car dealerships in NOVA that don't lie about price?

Simple solution: finance it, then pay it off a week later. The dealership will be pissed (they get a cut of the financing) but it's totally legal.

Exactly this— why not just finance it and prepay the loan for $2k?

In the meantime if you want you can complain to the consumers affairs branch of the AG but not sure how much they care in VA.

This this this. Yes they do it everywhere. Lindsay Lexus too.

Most of the time if you're upfront about wanting to pay cash, they'll suggest taking the loan so you can get a better price then paying it off in a few months. There's typically a set amount of months (maybe three?) the loan has to be active. if it's paid off sooner the bank claws back the incentives from the dealership. Most people wait that time out then pay it off the next month. A few month's interest isn't that much and you don't screw over the guy working to get you that deal. Or you could just pay it off immediately. In that case the discounts to the dealer get clawed back and you get your cash price. You're a bit of a jerk for doing it and they may not want your business in the future but that's an option.

Some certainly are. Lindsay Chevrolet is a den of Vipers. Great selection, but I would never buy another vehicle from them

We bought a new car a few years back at Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota. They honored the price even when we paid cash. I didn't know it was an issue. There was an extra discount for financing, I think it was $500, but we didnt' quality. The price we paid matched the quoted price we got online though. We went through the USAA car buying service. I also called around to a couple of other dealerships and they would have matched that price with us paying cash. We didnt' look at Kias though. I had bad experiences at a couple of other dealerships, but the team at Jack Taylor was nice.

I would not assume you can easily prepay car loans without penalty. It may be worth it to pay extra in cash up front then deal with the hassle and penalties.

We had lots of issues paying cash. Try more dealers. Or, take the financing and pay it off.

I’ve had many dealers include a financing incentive in the price, but all have disclosed that from the beginning.

Had a very smooth experience with the purchase of a used Ford (had been a lease) at Cowles Parkway Ford in Woodbridge. Paid cash and web price and then out-the-door were all as quoted.

Of course, this is legal. The problem is it may end up costing a lot more than you realize when you try to pay the loan off early. Even if the dealer tells you there are no prepayment penalties, they can structure the loan so your earliest payments are for the interest, not the principal.

This is in Maryland, but about a year ago, my daughter and I split the cost of a used 2018 Hyundai at Fitzgerald in Rockville. They didn't blink an eye when we said we were paying cash, although the transaction still took about 2 hours.

We went to numerous dealerships before buying from Fitzgerald. It was the lowest price and the team wasn’t smarmy. I really enjoyed my car buying experience with them. The others mostly just yelled and played games. Blegh.

I bought a Kia last year, financed to get the incentive, and paid it off after a couple months. No prepayment penalty. I've also done it a few times with Toyota.
