Hiking Area in Montgomery County where dogs are NOT allowed?

Anonymous
Wasn’t your question on Carolyn Hax recently? You might look-up her response. Very few trails prohibit dogs but I’d recommend trails that enforce leash laws and just clearly announce you have a lethal dog allergy and you need them to keep Fido at a distance. For those who are breaking the leash law, carry pepper spray and a baseball bat and when you clearly announce that you have a lethal dog allergy note that if their pooch approaches you you’ll defend yourself.

I also go to sugarloaf, pepco trail and the canal ... further north above violates lock.

I also walk around the Rio and the soccerplex.

You sound like you have a fear you might want to address with counseling.

Did you even read the original post? Counseling doesn’t cure serious allergies, as far as I know....

Yes and she is letting her fear rule her life.

She imagines people with dogs approach you and let their dogs slobber on people.

This literally has never happened to her but is a fear she has that rules her life.

That requires therapy to fix.

Are you crazy? Unleashed dogs ALWAYS run up to people and slobber all over them. With the owner saying, “Awwww.” NP.

Places like nature preserves or the arboretum in dc don’t allow dogs.

Allergies or fear, it does not matter. People should not let their dogs run unleashed because of the simple fact that it's illegal.

I find there are fewer dogs (and fewer unleashed dogs) on paved trails which are located in parks. They have more bicyclists, which may lead to fewer unleashed dogs.

Yes, but then you have to deal with the bikers.

Sorry you have to deal with this, OP. I'm a total dog person, but so many owners just suck. Dogs in public places need to be leashed.

No they don't. You need therapy if you imagine dogs are slobbering on you when you go out for a walk.

I don't agree with this poster other than I hike around Clopper Lake all the time and while there are dogs on it, they are on leash. I don't think I've ever seen a dog off leash there and I go most weekends.

My son has a dog allergy and it's usually enough to say, "please keep the dog away, my son is allergic."

But also, as a former dog owner, I truly hate such inconsiderate dog owners. I really do. Not everyone loves their dog, but they just don't get it.

You sound pretty clueless yourself . You might want to get therapy on why you seem to like doling out useless advice. Unless you’re one of those irresponsible dog owners and OP struck a nerve.

We stopped going to Lake Frank several years ago because there were so many unleashed dogs that would run up to my leashed dog and annoy him. The owners were usually useless about it. I don’t know if it has gotten better now.

Found the irresponsible dog owner.

Np. You sound so delusional. I’m someone who is afraid of dogs (long story) and almost every single time I see someone with an unleash dog. In fact just this past weekend I was at Little Bennett. This dog was well-behaved and just a shout or whistle from the owner, the dog did not approach. I have had other friendly dogs who approached. Two other parks where I have encountered this is at the trail behind Woodley Gardens and Black Hills.

If OP has an allergy, this is a legit concern.
