Why is quota a bad idea if the true intention is to diversify ?

are you looking to be diverse or to be the best?

Racial quotas are illegal.

Doing what they’re doing plays right into the Devos and the Republicans trap- by chasing “equity” we are lowering the potential of education.

First, why would anyone care about what Trump or Devos thinks? Second, are you really making the argument with a straight face that the new system wouldn't serve all different kinds of students as compared with the current system? And no, the purpose of TJ was not to prove that FCPS has the best educational system in the country. It's misinformation like that that is fueling the outrage about the change. Finally, while you think we are lowering the potential of education, I think we'll be uplifting the potential of a much more diverse cross-section of the FCPS student body, both based on race and SES.

It will make all of the Asians vote red.

And the purpose isn’t to serve all kind of students. It’s to serve nerds.

Really driven nerds.

yes, some Asian parents in Fairfax and some in Arlington and Loudoun are organizing for a major protest and they are itching to vote Republicans for local, state and federal elections. We will have to see if that makes VA a toss up state in November or just narrow the margin for Biden.

Democrats’ “equality” talking points are just sound bites for votes. They don’t care to solve the real problems for black folks, and Asians don’t have enough votes for them even to pay attention

Nerds come in all colors, shapes, sizes, races, etc...

Where are they? FCPS needs to actually do their job and find them.

FCPS needs to actually focus on getting all students get a good foundational education from K-8. TJ kids are there because of a lot of support at home. Can other students without parental support do well in FCPS? No. Achievement gap keeps increasing because FCPS is doing such a piss poor job in regular school day that only children with two highly educated parents in STEM fields can do well.

Having mediocre students come to TJ will actually mean that they will be bottom performers in TJ and will go through unnecessary stress and loss of self worth.

These kind of race politics is played by Republicans. There are also some racist URMs who are not looking out for the interests of their groups. They are misleading people of their own race.

As usual, Asian parents will find a way to make their children succeed academically. It does not matter if FCPS dumbs down the curriculum or gives seats to low performing Whites (and 1-2 token Hispanic and Black students) - eventually, no one can win against the sheer amount of hard work and grit of Asian-American students. Bring it on. You are only hurting middle class students (mainly White).

Because quotas in this context would be in extremely shaky legal ground following the Supreme Court’s decisions. Holistic review and lottery are most likely perfectly fine. Sorry, but the change is a-happening.

By lottery, then why would FCPS still need to have TJ at all? Just do regular home base schools. Many other states do not have this type of schools and they do not lack in producing top notch students.

These kids who would have gone to TJ will now be at the base high schools and may actually be better for a lot of those Asian kids’ college acceptances.

Quotas in this case are not problematic. It is not a race-based quota, but apportioning to regions, just like the US Congress.

A majority minority school is diverse. The school will now be much whiter.

Nope. Not fine. 6-3 SCT will rule affirmative action or use of race in admissions decisions to be unconstitutional.

You make no sense. There is no test and there is a lottery. Where is the affirmative action? Where are they using race for admissions?
