SAT this weekend

I had zero idea about the politics surrounding this. Of course, the SAT board should have prioritized the seniors. That makes total sense. But, they didn't. So, I just simply went online and signed up. I didn't purposely try to torture someone else. I can promise that!

Well you did anyways

OP, don't take it personally. This experience is torture for parents of seniors.

I resolve every few hours to just give up on the test. The next thing I know, I'm telling my kid to check availability in some ridiculous location. So much waffling!

They prioritized it for students who were registered for cancelled tests in March, April, May, and June. Those students had about a week to register for SATs before those who weren't registered for any of those tests. True, they didn't prioritize all seniors, but they did prioritize for many people who missed 1 or more tests in the spring.

Priority registration is worthless if the test is cancelled.

We have been doing great with COVID precautions, so I am very uncomfortable with him sitting indoors with many other people to take the test. However, he has been taking a prep class and this was the natural progression, and he wants to take it.
I keep hoping his center gets cancelled, but no such luck.

Has anyone gone to a different testing center? Any feedback?
Are the people really disappointed about cancellations parents of 12th graders?

What is the general thinking about kids going to take these tests in enclosed spaces?? If they can't open school, why are these still happening?

I do not understand - you can just cancel the test yourself. Why do you hope the test center gets cancelled?

and maybe open a seat for a senior?
Yes, we are disappointed, my senior’s center canceled 2 weeks ago and there was not a single seat in DMV and WV[/quote]

+1

People are SO selfish.

I think you're purposefully trying to torture parents of seniors who haven't gotten to take the SAT yet (or want to try and improve their score).

+1. WTH.

Nope. Only those registered for the June test got priority registration for fall dates. My kid was registered for March and when that was cancelled we moved to May. Cancelled again so I gave up assuming that June definitely wasn't happening. I was right, but unfortunately, that also meant DC did NOT get priority registration. We had to wait for that extra week, and at that point the earliest fall date open nearby (because I'm not driving to PA or WV) was October. August and September locations within a 50 mile radius were completely booked.

The priority was that you had to have not ever taken the SAT either. My kid who was registered for March April and June SATs did not get priority because she took it in December

I don’t know why people are having such trouble. I signed up my 7th grader to take it and didn’t have any difficulty.

I have a rising junior and it wasn’t even on our radar. She’s taking the PSAT again this fall. What do I know? Haha

I find it hard to believe you are this clueless, but, I would not go on and on to other parents about how you are nervous for him to take their test. They may find it annoying if their kid couldn’t even get a spot.

OP, that is fine if you have concerns about infection. If you think the risk outweighs the benefit, then just have your kid not show up for the test. But please, do not wish for the whole testing to be cancelled because there are many seniors that still have yet to sit for the test and this will probably be their last chance.

I won't have to argue with my son about it. And, I don't know how to weight the risks and benefits if it is important for him to get the test done.

You sound terrible!!! I’m disgusted you’ve taken this spot from a senior.

Why would a junior take it now wearing a mask? That’s ridiculous. If your nervous don’t go. What the?
