CityDance will start all virtual and then add hybrid with very small groups in studio by October if the guidelines and restrictions stay the same. We will choose virtual only, although I believe the school and conservatory is adhering to the safety protocols and we may change our mind. I’m not sure how they will handle the registration process if more students accept hybrid as an option than capacity allows. I guess we will wait and see. Overall, I am impressed with CityDance’s negotiation of this changing landscape. DD finished last season on Zoom and has spent most of her summer in intensives. They have been excellent. Feeling good about fall. Those who see online dance as a poor substitute or money grab are missing the point. This is our reality, and I’m grateful a few high quality programs are working hard to remain an important part of students’ lives. DD would not be the same happy resilient kid without dance. |
| Virtual is reality for at least a year. Anyone dening this or refusingvto adapt will be left behind. |
Yes. I am actually wondering which ones so I can plan accordingly . Don't want to get in and lose money when they collapse. |

Our school has been doing smaller classes, taking temps upon entrance and wearing masks. They’ve been doing in person classes and camps for about a month since Moco allowed it. They are offering virtual for all classes if you don’t want to come in person.
They are doing a great job and we will continue in person classes. Seems like I’m in the minority. |
| I am most worried about the studios that rushed in quickly. The slow and cautious studios are probably on the best footing. It is a privilege to roll out slowly. You have to have the cash reserves to wait. |
My sister teaches at a ballet studio in a relative hotspot in a southern state, and this is roughly what they're doing. The priority for in-person classes will be the older kids, where the proper floor and careful corrections by instructors are important for avoiding injury. Parents aren't allowed to wait in the lobby, and they're spacing out classes so that the previous kids are totally cleared out before the next group is allowed to enter. They'll schedule some very small classes for younger kids as the schedule allows, but are trying to steer most of those toward zoom because it's much harder to ensure distancing, and parents really need to be close by while they're in class. |
I have a question about citydance: do you know whether these will be dedicated online classes or just a livestream from the in-person class? From their recent emails I’m suspecting it’ll be the kattet, but I’d love to be wrong! I’ve been asking but they’re being evasive. |
I'm not sure but I'm assuming it will be as it was in the spring and summer - dedicated online classes with corrections/feedback for all. The format has been pretty successful so far - doubt they would change it. |
| Actually, from what we’ve heard up to now it’ll be more like a livestream from the studios, where smaller groups will receive lessons at the same time. Only the lower school will stay completely online. |
I haven’t heard that. Does that mean kids working at home won’t get individual corrections online? I find that surprising given how well the summer intensive programs went. Many had one teacher demonstrating and another watching and giving corrections. And another handling IT issues. |
Yes, that’s what it means. |
| I just learned that Chris Collins dance is starting in person classes this week. Apparently zoom is available for those who want it. I'm not sure how many students will be in each class though. |
