The only time we were made to feel self conscious in a vehicle was driving up to the Breakers in Palm Beach in a full bed work pickup truck. The Breakers does not have self park. They only have valet.
My husband was seeing clients in the area. He has big money golf course and agricultural clients. .....If the Breakers only knew how much money we have..... |

My dad bought a $100k car about ten years ago. I am pretty sure he doesn't give a crap one way or another what people think. His other car is a total rustbucket. He grew up in public housing in a poor urban neighborhood and spent part of his early childhood in a real UN refugee camp before immigrating. He made his money in medicine saving lives. So I think he feels he earned it.
(We are white btw. Not every white person in the US descended from Thomas Jefferson.) |
I'm sure "the breakers" doesn't give a crap, only of you pay the check or not. |
| Some people just like having a fancy car. It's not that meaningful - some people spend a lot more on cars in proportion to their income/wealth than others. |

My weekend/nice weather car is a resto-rod (‘66 Malibu Hardtop). I restored and customized it myself over several years. I’d rather drive it than any of my other vehicles. It’s expensive (worth about $120k if it ever went to auction), but it doesn’t come off as snobby. Valets get in arguments about who’s going to park or retrieve it, lolz!
People see it and go “WOW!” and take pictures. But they don’t automatically assume the person driving it is an a-hole like they frequently do with high end luxury cars. |

In CA, where cars are king it is considered a status symbol.
People judge others on what they drive. Like high school kids judge their peers on what clothes they wear. Stupid but true..... |
| I love to own and drive only nice cars. It’s basically my hobby. I watch videos on the car that I own. Follow club groups on FB. I just like land rovers. It’s a thing. Some of us like them for the history etc. |
Hold my beer - I drive a BMW which totally means I am an ass. |
Why is it important to you that people know how much money you have? |
That’s how I feel about my Volvo. |
| My husband is a German auto enthusiast, so we drive nice cars. I don’t consider them super flashy. |
| Some people really like driving and engines and stuff. I could not care less and would happily drive a golf cart, but I get it because my husband is super into his car. He gets excited about winding country roads. To each their own. |
| I don’t consider a RR, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche SUV, etc. to be impressive or worthy of notice. They’re driven by soccer moms all over this area. Lol to people feeling self-conscious driving around a Mercedes. |

😍 Live your best life! Wish I knew you so that we could go roaring down the highway… |
