When we stayed Truro a few years ago it was $2500-$3000 for the week- July 4th week (we were several families). I think you paid way way too much. We were walking distance to a Bay beach and we were allowed to use it. I found the people on the Cape super nice and down to earth. When I went to get coffee on the second day, the barista greeted me by name and asked if I wanted the same thing I had the day before.

I like the variety of it. Hyannis is very different from Falmouth, which is different than Eastham/National Sea Shore area, which is differnet from Provincetown. Then, you have Nantucket and Martha's Vineyards.

Except for Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, the prices are comparable to the Jersey Shore and OBX. I think the difference is that you can make it significantly cheaper because there are more small 2-3 bedroom houses that are still "nice", where in OBX and NJ, that isn't necessarily true.

It actually does not have that many sharks, but thanks for chiming in.

Cape Cod is too chilly for my tastes, but to each her own.

-someone who wouldn’t bat an eye at taking a trip in the summer to Florida.

I was just about to post the same thing. I do not like to be cold at the beach.

We went to NC in August (three weeks), last year, and the water was so cold, that there was not one person (not even kids) in the water. The sand was so hot that flip flops were not enough to cover our feet, and there were no waves, so we could not try surfing. Big disappointment. We like NJ for beaches, because it is not too far, and every beach is truly different.

I guess it depends on how you define "that many", but there certainly are sharks in the water.

This could be anything, including how many shark sightings over 50 years. You could actually send a reputable and working link.

Someone clearly has a beef with Cape Cod here. Truly crazy.

"Someone"?

Or just maybe several people are pointing out the things they like - and don't like - about Cape Cod. Every destination has its pros and cons. No need to take it personally.

Not a shark expert, but when we were in Cape Cod a couple years ago, all the beaches had shark warning signs/alerts posted since seals were in the area. We still went in up to our knees, but it was something that was definitely in the back of my mind and the shark warning signs, along with the cold water, kept us from going in any further into the water.

For the record, this Cape Cod vs. OBX fight is tired. We have been to both and like both of them a lot. To me Cape Cod and OBX are both pretty similar. Long stretches of sand that jut out into the ocean. Also, both are similar in that when you enter OBX, like when you enter Cape Cod, neither are what you were coming to expect. Kill Devil Hills, like Yarmouth, is kind of disappointing if you're expectations were quiet beaches with lots of elbow room. If you did your research, or explore some, Cape Cod and OBX, offer a lot of different kinds of beach experiences.

I agree, sooo crowded and too expensive for what you get.

We rented a house for ~12k. For that amount of money, you can get a house on the sand in the OBX. And the OBX beaches are waaaay less crowded (well Duck and Corolla anyway).

We also found the water too cold to swim for long in July.
