Based on my one trip there, I will say, that I found Cape Cod to be:
Way too expensive. (10K for a small house in Chatham) Beautiful. Water too cold to swim in. Snooty. My snootiest Aunt goes every year. Preppy heaven. Too far from DC for me to visit regularly. What do you think about Cape Cod? |

I have never been, my family lives in the Boston suburbs so I hope they take me there this summer. Always wanted to visit.
Sad that under such circumstances. |
| It’s crowded. Some ponds are very nice. |
| Really like Outer Cape, but too busy in August (when we last visited a few years ago) |
What in the world...granted it was 2012 but we paid $2400 for a week in a 4 BR place (2 families) in Eastham about 1/3 walk from the Bay. $10K???? |
This was week of August 18, FWIW. |
Yep. My parents payed most of it. Here's a bigger house than we rented, but yes, Chatham for 10K: https://www.vrbo.com/td/tc/a/checkout/321.1780305.2341814?unitLink=/units/0004/544d665b-efd7-4b26-988e-42066679ac1c&arrivalDate=07/04/2020&departureDate=07/11/2020&petIncluded=false&adultsCount=5&childrenCount=3&skipLogin=true#contact-details |
Just saved you $6500. https://www.vrbo.com/1413036?adultsCount=4&arrival=2020-07-04&childrenCount=4&departure=2020-07-11 |

It really depends where you stay. My family has had a house in South Yarmouth since the 70s and I grew up spending my summers there. As long as you stay away from the houses on Bass River, it's not snooty at all. and definitely not preppy The water is semi warm but more seaweed than other places on the cape. But I have no problem being in the water for hours with DS (temp wise that is!).
Chatham is very snooty and overpriced. Hyannis is a mix. |
| It is the reason I wish I didn’t live in DC. That and visiting the lakes in New England. Cannot for the life of me find anything close nearby. |
The lakes in New England are very nice. Also state parks in New Hampshire. I would indeed like to be closer to those. Or The NC mountains. So much more striking than the VA mountains. Same mountain range but much higher. |
| Y’all (DC) are spoiled too you just don’t realize it. Signed a former DC resident absolutely psyched to be moving back after a Midwest tour. |
I'm glad to hear it. Where should we be going near here. I need a fresh perspective to feel inspired. |
