How do you keep mosquitos from lying eggs in your birdbath?

Just hose it out and fill with fresh water every day—you should do that anyway to prevent disease.

Good point!

What are the safe materials or specific brand names of bird baths that do not contain toxic heavy metal paints or metals? Thanks.

How do you attract more Cardinals? Is there any trick of specific feed or bird feeder color?

If the birds are bringing disease, just don't have the birthbath anyway. They're basically sky vermin.

Are you in the city? I had a bird feeder once in the city and a rat(s) came to eat the seeds that fell on the ground. I haven’t had a bird feeder since.

Does anyone know what the cute black and grey birds at my feeder are called? It is a very sharply delineated pattern—looks like they are wearing little formal wear or something.

Maybe chickadees?

I have not seen ONE single wandering cat in our area ever.

Do you have a ring? I have three different ones in my yard every night.

Possibly house sparrows, the males, although chickadees and nuthatches are other good suggestions.

Thanks for this, OP! I have two feeders out. One has safflower seeds and the other has niger seeds. Nuthatches, jays and cardinals come to the first. I love the two pairs of goldfinches who come to the niger seeds.

I had hummingbirds two years ago. Did you know they come back to the exact same spot year after year? Last year I didn’t put the feeder out (I was spending a lot of time at my mom’s when she was in hospice) and I lost them. So I’m trying again this year, but so far no hummers.

You’re lucky! We have several wandering cats in this neighborhood. A number of neighbors and I have tried to get the owners to keep their cats inside, especially during nesting and fledging season. But the owners won’t listen.

I have this awesome feeder to deter squirrels. It tosses them off the perch and provides so much entertainment.
