Park Police behavior during GW Pkwy traffic stop

Yes. Please stay to the right if you are driving more slowly. That is the correct lane for slower traffic.

Cruising in the left lane is against the law. Not knowing the law is no excuse. The loss of your Dad is irrelevant.

The guy gave you a break on the road and you want to file a complaint?

For OP and those others of you who don’t know that you shouldn’t just sit your slow ass in the left lane, I’ll assume that you just learned to drive and post this handy link from firsttimedriver.com to explain it to you.

https://www.firsttimedriver.com/blog/slow-left-lane-driving-laws-and-dangers/

And here’s a list of all the laws against it:

I once got pulled over for moving into the right lane and slowing down! I still don't get that one. Baffling.

Considering there are almost a million police officers, I think she will be ok. Look at FBI ucr data if you want to see who the real killers are. You won't like what you find.

OP here, 22:27, I don't need validation. Since I've never experienced this type of traffic stop before, I just wanted to get some insight
on how familiar other people were with the law he cited. In the 30+ years I've lived and driven in the DC area, I 've never heard of the
'left lane law' he referred to. I've been pulled over numerous times for various minor traffic violations, but never for driving the speed
limit in the left lane. And just FYI...the only reason I was able to get a picture of his license plate was because he pulled over another
left lane driver a few minutes later. That driver pulled over to & stopped in the right lane (the lane I was driving in) with the officer pulling
behind him. Because there was a steady stream of traffic in the left lane, I had to stop behind the officer until it was clear...which gave
me a chance to safely take a picture of his license plate. Anything else?

Honestly, it sounds like OP doesn't like police officers. Obstructing traffic is against the law and can create a very dangerous situation. Even if the cop is a jerk, arguing with him will only earn you a ticket. But he only gave you a warning? And you want to file a complaint against him...wth. I wonder if that minneapolis cop had bogus complaints filed against him as well.

AFAIK left land is for faster traffic on Maryland, not “passing only”. Many other states have passing only laws though. Either way, going the speed limit in the left lane makes you a dick.

OP again, 22:40...I only questioned him because he said I was driving too slow in the left lane, but I was driving the posted speed limit of 50mph. If the argument is that left lane drivers can drive at a higher rate of speed to keep up with the flow of traffic, then who decides how fast is too fast? I got a speeding ticket in DC last year for driving 40 mph in a 25mph
zone, but I had no idea the posted speed limit was 25mph because the sign was completely obstructed. When I went before the hearing officer to challenge the ticket, she said that
the default speed limit everywhere in DC was 25 mph, unless otherwise posted. With that information in mind, I didn't think I'd ever be penalized for driving the posted speed limit. Had I been driving 60 mph in the left lane on that same stretch of road, a different, less hurried officer may have very well pulled me over for speeding.

You clearly need to read all the links above. And pay more attention since you had no idea someone was behind you looking to pass and that it was a cop, FFS.

Anonymous wrote:The left lane is a passing lane. Was there a car in the right lane you were passing? Or were you driving in the left lane on a open road? If you were passing it is one thing, if you were using the left lane as a travel lane, then yes you were obstructing the flow of traffic.

Sorry the officer was so harsh, but what he was attempting to convey was the truth.

Park Police are murderous, lying scum.

23:16 I was paying attention....to the posted speed limit and to the road ahead of me....

+1

Stay right, pass left.

Go take a driving class if you don’t know the rules of the road.

Why were you in that lane going the speed limit? Why didn’t you get out of the way so the people behind you could pass you? Did you not see the car was a cop car or did you not see any cars at all? Cops usually have a light next to their side mirror. It makes it really easy to tell them from other drivers. If you didn’t see any car back there then you aren’t checking your mirrors enough. If you saw them and didn’t care because you were going the speed limit then you’re a bad person.

All the people criticizing OP for not going faster than the speed limit in the left lane should be pulled over and given fines when they do it, because that is most definitely against the law!!!
