Thanks, this is great. Small group practice is linked to Phase 1 and can start in most of Virginia today. Linking to the Phases is key since at least in northern Virginia, the government is likely to move back and forth between Phases. If we can get into Phase 1 in northern Virginia, maybe there will be consensus on really avoiding going all the way back to Phase 0. In Virginia, Stay At Home has been a joke IMO with tons of activities allowed and then arbitrarily strong restrictions on specific activities. It is a golfer's paradise, but stiff restrictions on park access. |
There is no practice in phase 1. You do not have the field space. |
This is reasuring. But I thought Maryland had "phases". Phase 1 definitely starts today at 5pm in most of the state. Where did the stages come from and do they match the phases exactly? |
You guys get to start practicing in phase 1! Now assuming thats may 29th for nova? We in moco are still on lockdown. |
Sorry..i missed the field space comment |
The official term the Maryland government is using is “stages”. Media may call it different but the controlling document says “stages”. Stage 1 started Friday at 5:00 https://governor.maryland.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/MD_Strong.pdf |
Thx! |
Just curious: are the kids practicing drills 6 feet apart? Are they doing one on ones? |

Well, the writing is on the all. It looks like we will not only have games in the Fall but my get some competition in this Spring. I wouldn't be surprised to see practices begin in some format in late June with scrimmages or games by late July. My positivity is based on the following:
1. Colleges are not only planning to open but have made plans to play Fall sports. Various conferences have already restructured their seasons to reduce travel and costs but will play. Notre Dame just put forth a plan to open for the Fall. Other universities are following suit. 2. Other states have already announced the return of youth sports and some state your organizations have already set a date for regular practice. FC Dallas returns to the field on May 31. 3. DC is already eyeing a re-opening. |
Brought to you from your local soccer club / league director |
No chance of spring competition. And even with DC eyeing re-opening, the time between phase 1-2 and then 2-3 could be the next 6 months. |
Do you not realize that some states are run by idiots and are pushing for re-opening too soon? And this region is taking a different track? |

^^^^^This community is full of morons.
OP here and I just posted some thoughts about the return to soccer given this thread is about returning to soccer and Kensington Karen post the non-sense above. Anyone reading today's news would have a similar perspective on the return to soccer. https://www.soccerwire.com/news/atlantic-10-conference-mens-and-womens-soccer-to-play-modified-schedule-this-fall/ https://www.soccerwire.com/news/fc-dallas-youth-aims-to-begin-full-team-training-on-may-31/ https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/notre-dame/2020/05/19/what-notre-dame-fall-semester-schedule-means-fighting-irish-football/5219095002/ |

We will always have those folks who are justifiably apprehensive. We should all be apprehensive but at some point you have to follow the facts. The fact is that in MD, approximately half of the fatalities were in nursing homes and 2/3 of fatalities were people over 70. We know who the vulnerable populations are. The guidelines set forth by states make sense and for those calling the leaders of other states idiots, you should know that they are saying the same about you and your leaders.
The following is an interesting read from a resident in MA no less. https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/05/19/youth-sports-crushed-by-coronavirus/ |
Ok corona bro. |
