Self isolate and then see grandparents?

We're planning to do this if/when our summer camp plans get canceled. My 80-year-old mom lives alone in Ohio and hasn't been going anywhere. I've managed to have her groceries delivered via Instacart.

My daughter and I have been social distancing and generally leave the house just once a week to go to the drug store or Home Depot. We're planning to not even do that for the two weeks before we drive out to Ohio to stay with her for a few weeks.

We haven't been 100%, but we only go for walks around the neighborhood, do contactless Peapod pickup where they put the things in your car, and our one "riskier" activity is getting takeout twice in 7 weeks, but very quick/masked transactions, etc. I guess we have also had some packages and USPS mail delivered.

My parents a couple of states away have had someone grocery shopping for them and leaving it at the end of their long drive. I think they've gone for walks around their neighborhood too, but I THINK that's it.

If I were to do this, it would be strict quarantining for 2 weeks for all of us (including parents), first. Which means, honestly, that I wouldn't even go outside our yard, maybe get mail, but no groceries, no nothing else.

The issue we'd run into is that we live ~7 hours apart by car with zero stops. I don't know how we'd pee, is more the issue. We'd have to come up with some solution to that, but then it's hard to see how it would be a problem.

Still, it's so hard when the virus is so novel... what if it can be transmitted after 14 days? Who knows? My parents are 70+, my mom has asthma and my dad has auto-immune issues. And my DH is 50, also with asthma. :/

Pull over and pee in the bushes.

we are doing it this week. 8 hour drive. Just gonna pee by the car! and then we are renting a beach house all together that has been scrubbed, key in lock box situation. I am fine with this level of risk.

My MIL is too nervous to do this and doesn’t live anywhere fun. But if she were agreeable we would do it.

This is what we are planning. We’ve been going out on hikes and I shop once a month. Otherwise we haven’t been near anyone. My parents are healthy; we might see them in a few weeks.

I know someone who insisted on seeing their son and grandchild. Both grandparents got Covid-19 from them. Son brought it home from his work. If you are willing to take that risk...I know it’s hard, but if they get it, will you regret it?

Those of us that said we were said we’ve been isolating. So nobody has been to work. Also, I am starting to really wonder about these stories. 80,000
People have died. All of dcum knows one? K.

Right, I'm figuring we'd have to. It also occurred to me that we'd have to stop for gas (it's almost 500 miles away, our car can get us about 350-400 on a full tank), but I figure if that's on a really isolated stop, maybe "fine."

Not OP but I asked my doctor if it was ok to do this and she refused to provide guidance either way due to liability.

My parents are in their mid-70s and are flying from CA to see us tomorrow. We definitely have been social distancing but my husband has been to the store a few times recently and I had friends over to my fire pit (with distance). Time will tell if this is a bad idea. They’re really itching to get out and miss my young kids.

Oh, and their doctor said to go. And my dad is a contractor and has been working on people’s houses this whole time. My mom goes to the store a lot. I was upset with them at first but they started to take more precautions and take it more seriously.

THIS. They also make portable urinals for men and women if you are desperate. Google it.

That’s not self isolating.

My family lives in Ohio and it's apparently really easy to get tests there (Cleveland area). I'd see if you could get a test after you arrive, just in case.

We are planning to isolate starting this weekend and then drive to see my parents over Memorial Day weekend, and leave the kids there for a while. They really want to see us and our kids really need a change of scenery.
