Of course it's not going to be foolproof. Posting from named accounts only is not a guarantee that people won't abuse it, however in the cases where it has been used (socal) it does help reduce the useless chatter. I suspect that most frivolous posters don't go to the trouble of multiple accounts just to create their mischief. At least when you can see a name on a post, you can decide whether or not to read the next post from that name. I suspect if this forum existed, we would see only a small fraction of people using it, but the quality of posts would be much improved. |
I would feel awkward about that. My son's coach has been awful this year, and I would not want some of the comments to be traceable to the same poster, because it would potential reveal that it is our family.
I try never to say mean things about kids, clubs, or teams on this forum anyway. |

It’s a real shame in some nasty folks on here or those that purposely put wrong information out there. I have figured out a few who they are in real life too based on circumstances and exact lines being used.
I have actually gotten some real good advice and/or decent observations from people trying to be helpful. It’s just a shame. |
I agree - this forum is embarrassing. It has been taken over by what is probably a small group of nasty, mean spirited, self serving parents.
The gasoccerforum is much more useful than this one and the registered users are more respectful to each other. Would be great to have something similar here. And keep this forum live for those who enjoy spreading nastiness about all others. After all, their kids are the best and no other clubs are worthy. |
This is an issue for me as well. I like the club my kids play at overall, but there are several people in positions of responsibility there who are extremely petty and vengeful. I suppose the solution would be to save any potentially risky posts for the anonymous forum. I do agree that having a registered users forum would help tremendously in raising the level of conversation here (I’m a huge fan of other sports forums that follow this approach, including Big Soccer), but I wonder how many posters would use it. |
FYI, the best way to get in touch with Jeff is via the Website Feedback forum Or using the “report” feature in a post. He has an AMA that answers these questions and many more. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/877671.page |
+1 Yes to this! |
I already reported this thread to him to see if he wanted to chime in. If a poster is being nasty just report him/her. No need to register. |

Thank you Mrs. Kravitz ... I think. It's funny that you reported this to him. He suggested that I create this thread over here in response to my post on the Website Feedback forum. I think you could probably identify half the posts over the past few weeks in the soccer forum as being nasty, so the reporting trick isn't working so well. |
I agree that it is concerning how much identifiable stuff is being said about kids and yes they do look at this forum. It has made me really feel bad about our team because I have an idea of the parents who say mean things. They are not great on sideline either. |
I get the impression that sort of thing on the soccer forums is what costs Jeff a bunch of time. From time to time, things get out of hand and entire threads have to be removed for various reasons to protect people or clubs. Raising the likelihood of being caught might help minimize this sort of thing. |
Well thank for the nasty response. Guest having a user name does not really do anything? |
Functionally requiring a log in is likely a macro level change that cannot be drilled down to a specific thread.
The business model of DCUM is anonymity and if you look at several subject boards you can quickly see why users would dry up. Soccer is a very small percentage of what the website serves. All you can do is report bad behavior and be respectful yourself. I have been to many other soccer threads and they are not much different than here. SoCal aside the combination of highly competitive subject matter and anonymity creates a toxic environment at times but DCUM is not a soccer forum. He is more likely to kill the whole soccer board vs doing a macro change to a site that works for 95% of its users. |
