What clubs will disappear as a result of this pandemic?

I can see Team America FC folding due to the economic hit.

All the out of work folks could volunteer to coach and keep clubs alive by eliminating their biggest costs: paying coaches.

Yeah that’s actually true.

They've lost their jobs and that means that they owe YOU a free service. I think we've hit peak GOP. 'Murica. GFY.

They got their tournament in so they should be good for this year. Now if there is no fall soccer and no bethesda cup next fall and they do not have a rec program ...who knows. A big rec program generated a lot of money from the little kid- no ref, no coach, one field= 6 games and a t shirt.

rumor is they're close to folding

What does it mean to be a smaller club? Just because a smaller club isn't a powerhouse in the travel space doesn't mean they don't have a robust rec. program. The one advantage small clubs have is very little overhead. They may have a FT Exec. Dir. and one or two full time technical/administrative staff but are otherwise built around volunteer coaches. Assuming the club doesn't own it's own field(s), they rent field space from the county. At this point, they're not paying to rent space and won't do so until they're cleared to resume. I think Gunston is a perfect example. Their travel program has struggled but they've got the market cornered for rec in the south eastern part of Fairfax County.

I think a lot of what happens to the smaller clubs will be determined by how well the club has treated their families over the years. We have had 3 of our kids play for Premier AC for several years. When it comes to the club family relationship. They are at the top of the list in my opinion. A smaller club not selling college fast track pitch. They are honest and truly care about each kid. Player/person development to each kids full potential is what you get from them. Every coach from u9-u17 knows each and every kid by name. If they do have an outlier kid (which in all honestly may only be 5-6 in the entire DMV area regardless of club). They are proud to recommend them to a high level team. Unlike the larger ECNL clubs who squeeze as many of the herd into their program just for the money grab. Although small Premier AC will be able to survive because of the family model.
