How is it a magnet for germs and viruses? Just like any other place you clean your hands and shower with sandals on if you have to and don't touch your face! |

Why wouldn't gyms just have chlorox wipes at every cardio machine and every weight machine. You would need to wipe it before using. They might block off every other carfio machine to create more space. Keep outside doors open all the time for circulation.
They would put marks on the floor of classrooms to kerp distances. Bring your own mats. Etc. It's not imposdible to imagine. |
Every dumbbell, every weight bar, every plate, every rope attachment? And who is going to police that. At most gyms, the only staff are at the front desk. No one is enforcing anything. |
Some things can be taken out of use. The gym doesn't have to "enforce" adults wiping their machines before use. The ADULTS can be expected to use supplied cleaners or asdume the risk of infection. You think LAFitness/Gold's/24 Hr fitness are sitting around saying "this will never work! We have to file bankruptcy and close!" Or are they thinking of ways to make it work...hmmm....I wonder which it is??? Nothing will be as carefree as before but where there is a will (i.e. money at stake), there is a way. |
| What is the point of taking temperatures if contagious before symptoms show? |
Um. Yeah. That's actually what is happening. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/18/24-hour-fitness-weighs-bankruptcy-amid-coronavirus-pandemic.html |
I do too - they tried hard to make sure folks washed their hands etc, but there are just so many touch points - and let's be honest, they aren't using bleach or Clorox wipes for the wipe downs - it's usually just some nice smelling spray. The good news is that if your hand touches the virus, you don't automatically catch it - so keeping your hands off your face will really help. Also, the newer data suggests that the virus spreads via aerosolized drops and not via hands touching things b/c it's too fragile for it. I think you could wear gloves like you wear socks and that might help. Also, just ensuring the studio isn't super crowded would also be good. It's a tough one - I feel for all of the gyms out there . I did see gyms open during phase 1. |
| The evidence is not very good that you can get it from surfaces, and therefore there is no reason to keep gyms closed. |
| They could hire cleaners who are constantly cleaning machines. |
| They could allow something like 10 people every hour. Schedule over the phone for slots. I would suspect the over 50 and high risk group would have sit it out early on. |
Yes, because at gyms there are zero people breathing hard and heavy from exertion, spraying their breath even further than normal people at rest. |
| I agree with PP that they almost need to "fog" the place out periodically like exterminators do for extreme roach infestations. Just send everyone out, close the door, and fog the entire gym periodically. |
I think the real concern is that people are lifting weights more than ever now. It's fairly easy to wipe down treadmills and ellipticals. But weights and weight machines are a different story. And so many gyms are 75% weights and 25% cardio machines now. The people who still do cardio can do it outside. But those with weights can't do everything they need to do without a fully-stocked home gym, which many people cannot ever have because of financial or space issues. |
| I don't think gyms are any more germs than schools. If they open the schools I will be back at the gym. |
What a strange reaction. Sociopath |
