Why wouldn't gyms just have chlorox wipes at every cardio machine and every weight machine. You would need to wipe it before using. They might block off every other carfio machine to create more space. Keep outside doors open all the time for circulation. They would put marks on the floor of classrooms to kerp distances. Bring your own mats. Etc. It's not imposdible to imagine.
Every dumbbell, every weight bar, every plate, every rope attachment? And who is going to police that. At most gyms, the only staff are at the front desk. No one is enforcing anything.
Some things can be taken out of use. The gym doesn't have to "enforce" adults wiping their machines before use. The ADULTS can be expected to use supplied cleaners or asdume the risk of infection. You think LAFitness/Gold's/24 Hr fitness are sitting around saying "this will never work! We have to file bankruptcy and close!" Or are they thinking of ways to make it work...hmmm....I wonder which it is??? Nothing will be as carefree as before but where there is a will (i.e. money at stake), there is a way.
I think the real concern is that people are lifting weights more than ever now. It's fairly easy to wipe down treadmills and ellipticals. But weights and weight machines are a different story. And so many gyms are 75% weights and 25% cardio machines now. The people who still do cardio can do it outside. But those with weights can't do everything they need to do without a fully-stocked home gym, which many people cannot ever have because of financial or space issues.
