Walk single file next time, OP.

This. If you were walking side by side versus single file, you had it coming.

Nope. We all need to adapt. No one has the right to barrel through, and a couple side by side is not blocking a path.

Sorry, op. You were in the wrong.

Not op. And not wrong.

The majority of posters disagree

Yes, the 6 runners who are incensed other people are using “their” trails and sidewalks and jump on every runners thread.

PP here. This is really the answer. Unless they are like 14 ft wide, these are the wrong places to be.

A rabid cyclist swore at us one day on a trail, for no good reason.

Seems like you must have met the jogger version, OP.

Stick your foot out as she goes by next time.

Yes, there were joggers and bikers but for the most part it was easy to stay out of everyone's way.

Until this one runner went flying, SPRINTING by, "threading the needle" so to speak, yelling at people to get out of her way but refused to slow down. Like she was in a race or something. What the heck? In what world is there a need to be running 6 minute miles these days? What is she even training for? There are no races around. I'm sorry, but social distancing supersedes your training regimen.

OP, I know you're not a runner, but just to address this point--some people are very focused on their times. My spouse just did a 13-mile run in DC at about an 8-min pace, even though most scheduled races are likely cancelled. It's a runner's thing, I guess--you're competing against yourself and your best times. Not saying that's a reason not to share the trail (spouse runs around people, even resulting in a rolled ankle recently), just addressing this question.

Except you. You don't want to adapt by walking single file. You're special and different, we get it.

OP stick to sidewalks.

As a runner, I'm avoiding sidewalks but understand that a lot of people are you in their neighborhoods walking. That's great, I respect that.

But you KNOW trails are where runners are. Don't go on them if you know this. And certainly do not expect sympathy if you're waking side by side instead of single file. If you expect others to make changes, then you have to do the same. Or one of you walks fully off the trail, on the right.

Notice how for others, the standard is "stay six feet away!" but for OP, (or whomever made that post) it is "couples are not blocking the path." Lovely.

You are in your house with your spouse basically all day - talk then. Walk single file on the paths or sidewalks.

Neither do you.

So go single file.

Move yourself.

Walk someplace else.

Accept the situation.

Explore your options and quit expecting others to change when you don't want to do anything yourself.

Again, ask them to go single file so you can pass. Just like no one is asking you to run on the shoulder the entire run, there is no reason to be single file the entire walk. Simply when people encounter each other, communicate and be considerate. I know your precious time is more important to people’s lives, but maybe consider how this will escalate. Look at PP saying to stick their foot out!

No one owns them. But, only one of us is bothered right now.

My dog's leash is 6 feet and I will make him walk to extend it in order to force people around us...yes we go into the street when we are on the street side but there are so many idiots who are oblivious and don't take the 6 ft seriously. We don't go on trails though just the neighborhood sidewalk so the dog can do his business.

We know you own the path, and you won’t change. So enjoy vigilante enforcement of 6ft, hopefully they won’t draw blood.
