Good historical or historical fiction movies/miniseries for family for the next month

WHAT?!? For an 8 and 11 year old? Saving Private Ryan is rated R for a reason.

I allowed my 10 year old to watch. Rated R means accompanied by a parent or guardian.

My son was really into American Revolutionary history when he was that age (8-11), and he really enjoyed the old "Johnny Tremain" and "The Crossing" with Jeff Daniels.

Do you mean the TV series "The Tudors" from 2007-on? No! Rated TV-Mature for a reason. Not for the two younger kids and I wouldn't let my 16 year old see it either. Pretty explicit sex. There are much better suggestions elsewhere in the thread.

Actually, while they took some artistic license, they also presented just how complicated that time in American history was. The good guys and bad guys weren’t necessarily all that obvious. I stand by my recommendation, it’s good but you need to pay attention.
