I don't understand Marc Elrich

The real question is why can any average white male win over competent people.

He’s not a Democrat he is a progressive socialist.

Political inclination wouldn’t matter so much if he were a competent leader.

It’s not NIMBY in MoCo. It’s BANANA.

Build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything.

A simple drive up Rockville Pike and out will tell you how poorly MoCo is doing. Yes, there are a few new complexes but the rest is dying retail space that will never recover. Turn it into hundreds and hundreds of townhouses.

You must be talking about a different Rockville Pike. The one in Montgomery County does not have a lot of commercial vacancies, though it does have a colossal amount of surface parking lots.

DP

Are you kidding?? There is an oversupply of commercial space for rent all over the county. Not just along Rockville Pike.

MoCo should take some of that extra space along Rockville Pike and permit developers to build hundreds of townhouses. No doubt, most of the townhouses would not be AH, but neither would they be multi-million dollar townhouses. MoCo could permit entire communities of townhouses.

Elrich’s idea of affordable housing is converting shipping containers.

Except many places in the US are seeing high housing costs, including areas that don't have much illegal immigrants living there. But only here, the cost is being driven by illegal immigrants? I don't think so. How many illegal immigrants are able to afford new TH going for $750K+? Or you are thinking that it's only worth that much because the cheaper ones are being bought up by illegal immigrants? Somehow, I doubt that. These are two different markets. There are just a lot of educated people in the area, people with good paying jobs. That's what drives up housing costs.

I think Elrich is absolutely incompetent (anyone watch his Corona virus press conference this week? He's like a super-left Trump, patting himself on the back all the time despite all his bungling and being unwilling to even state if the 3 infected people lived upcounty or downcounty.), but he can't do that much on illegal immigration -- that's the job of the federal government. I think his policy to give ICE as little as 1 hour to come pick up someone from MoCo jail they placed a detainer on is stupid -- Frederick County does a 48-hour hold.

As for housing, look at the legislation the Council passed last week, requiring landlords to provide A/C in all rental units. That just raised the rents for units that don't have it, and why not let tenants decide if they want to rent a unit without A/C (they can always buy their own unit)? Usual anti-business stuff.

He doesn't have a plan on housing at all. It's just "more density" but no infrastructure improvements to coincide with that. Who's going to be a big challenger for him next time he's up for election? I think Riemer is angling for it but I don't think he's very competent either.

Fredericks 48 hour hold without probable cause is unconstitutional. It’s been the subject of several lawsuits.

Fix the overcrowded, dilapidated, failing schools first. No businesses are coming to Montgomery County with the current disaster on our hands. Fix the schools, businesses will come, and the economy will improve. With the current state of the schools, no big business will come here.

The Maryland House just approved a historic, ten-year plan to invest in schools. Now the Maryland Senate has to pass it, and then the governor has to NOT veto it (although it passed the House with a veto-proof majority.)

Yes there is, but not on Rockville Pike (which is not a synonym for MD355).
