Potomac School

There are some that opt to leave Potomac for boarding schools mainly for high school.

Potomac School is plenty academically rigorous at all levels, but particularly in the upper school.

Easy with the inferiority complex, chief. "We're just as good as Potomac" said no Big 3 School ever.

There's a reason that Potomac compares themselves to the Big Dogs. That's a one-way street, slugger.

Potomac is an above-average VA local private. Like Episcopal or SSSA. It's not a national powerhouse like Sidwell or STA/NCS. So simmer down, slim.

You're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it wealthy families in McMansions (uh, I mean McLean) like you.

Current Potomac parent. I just don’t care and I think that bothers the big three crowd. You think Potomac is good or bad well then whatever. Most Potomac parents know the school is good and their kids are happy. That is all.

Get over yourself. No DC school has a national reputation. All just expensive private schools that end up with the same placement like every other competent upper class private.

Keep telling yourself that. While my kid takes your kid's spot at HYPSM. Top DC schools wins every time. It's not even close.

This is a really uninformed post. How would you know? Where else have you lived? I've lived in multiple foreign countries as an ex pat and international banker. Have taught and trained in prestigious international programs. St. Albans and National Cathedral are well know around the world. Sidwell is well known as well. I can assure you that no one in Dubai, UAE or Singapore has ever heard of the Potomac school.

And Potomac placement is nowhere near the level of the Big 3. I know that hurts the fragile egos of the NOVA regional tech elite. But VA Tech and UVA are fine schools.

“Chief,” “slugger,” and “slim.” Is this the vocab they teach you at Sidwell? ? Stunning.

I’m sorry I get the HYP (?) but what is the “SM”? Also...who ARE you? My siblings and I went to Ivies and this is just so off the radar.

We also found this to be the case.

Public school notoriously move kids faster in math levels, but not deeper. Trust me, Potomac School curriculum is much more rigorous than Arlington Public Schools. It is a pressure cooker with very high expectations for performance.

I know kids who went to Potomac from APS - most of them weren't top of the class students. But their parents were loaded.

Potomac School has higher average college entrance exam scores than any non magnet public school.

Yeah the whole Arlington public schools thing is a joke made by parents who can’t afford Arlington houses but live their “for the schools”. No. APS is not “better” than Potomac. Just silly.

I agree that Potomac is so off the radar of Ivy League schools. But they send a nice contingent to Va Tech every year.

Ha! This may be the best post I’ve seen on DCUM in a very long time. Funny, accurate, appropriate. Thank you!

Not PP, but it’s a reference to Stanford and MIT.

PP is a serious d-bag. I wonder if he has any idea how kids from public schools as well as privates like Potomac often outperform Big 3 grads at Ivies.

Double Ivy is accessing transcripts to compare public school and weaker private school student performance against the Big 3 at Ivies. How did you get the records? This is some impressive investigative reporting. Where should we look for the bombshell report?
