| It’s all about the doors, so no, there are no SUVs that are almost like a minivan. Rent one for your next family road trip. |

Grow a pair and stand up to your wife. Then put them on a jar on your mantle and buy a minivan. What everyone has said is correct. The minivan features that lead most to buy them (automatic/sliding doors and cargo space) just aren't there in any real SUV (or even the BS that passes for an SUV -- looking at you Tesla).
If you are looking for decent cargo space and ability to haul 3 kids (or minimal cargo space with room for 5 kids) you could look at the larger GMCs, Volvo, etc. |
Of course you can! We've done many road trips in ours. We bought early enough that charging along the way is free, and honestly, we'd stop about as often as we need to charge just because of the kids anyway. Our range is about 230 miles, though we don't go super low. As it is, we stop, plug in, get snacks/hit the bathroom, and then we're back on our way. I know the cost is prohibitive for most. For us, it was important to do what we can to reduce carbon emissions; we could afford it, so we did it. |
| No mini van. Look at the explorer, arcadia and the palisade. |
| There is nothing like a mini van! Long trips are amazing, so much room, everyon comfortale. Great for carpooling, even when the kids are older. All around a great choice! If totally refuses, maybe look at Expedition, Tahoe or Suburban. They probably have the same amount of space (although no sliding doors!). |
Every 230 miles? You’ve got to be kidding! That sounds like the worst road trip ever. |
That is simply crazy. and how long do you wait after 230 miles to recharge? You paid Tesla price for that? Sounds stupid to me but I guess you get people's attention... |
DP. Assuming you're going an average of 60 mph over that time span, that's basically every 4 hours. When you go on road trips, do you drive at one stretch without stopping for longer than that? |
Yes. We drive as far as a tank of fuel will take us, and then we stop for food and fuel and pile back in, under 30 minutes, tops We head to Florida three or four times a year and make the trip in one day. |
Right. Also, we have little kids, who still need semi-frequent breaks. Heck, even as an adult I can't stand to sit for more than three hours at the most. And it's not like gas-powered vehicles don't need to refuel, unless you're talking about something with multiple tanks. Look, it's not the car for you if you relish sitting for six hours straight and driving cross-country in three days. My priorities are different, so for our family, it's a perfect fit. For us, road trips mean driving somewhere together, not sitting for as long as possible (shudder). |

Ok, OP, if you want a minivan, trade your car in and get a used one (what do you drive and when did you buy it?)
If it’s her turn for a new car, she should get to choose what she wants to drive. |
| ^^^and I have a minivan BTW. |
Does it have sliding doors like a minivan? |
What? Whose kids can go longer than that without peeing? Not mine (or me). |
The doors slide up, rather than to the sides, but they're automatic like minivan doors are and also have better clearance than minivan doors. My kids can get in and out easily on their own. |
