Spinoff- What brands DO you like? What do you consider elegant?

You know, the clothes I consider “elegant” are so far out of my reach both size and price wise that I’ve largely forgotten what brands I like. Back in the day Roland Mouret’s dresses have always struck me as quite elegant.

Shoes: Ferragamo, Tod’s, Fratelli Rossetti
Bags: Delvaux, Ferragamo, Tod’s
Dresses: Roland Mouret, Erdem, Etro (for outside work) and the Fold London, Escada, St John (for work)
Suits: Escada, St John, Dolce and Gabbana, Max Mara
Coats: Max Mara, TSE
Sweaters: TSE, Brora

This is interesting because from this list I know exactly what your style is and how you like to dress. Not a criticism at all, though your style is different to mine. From all the other PPs, the designers are more diverse and its harder to tell. I love this thread but would love it even more if everyone would post a piece from each designer that they like.

I can’t afford it at all but old Celine from Phoebe Philo’s time.

What I love and what I can afford are very different things!

My taste is pretty simple and classic. I appreciate it when people take interesting risks, but they aren’t for me, personally. I would love to be able to wear Max Mara or Burberry. I’ve always admired Bottega Veneta leather bags. Todd’s driving mocs. Chanel ballet flats. Hermès anything.

I can afford J. Crew. On sale.

I have an Hermès scarf that a relative gave me years ago. Anytime I take it out and try to wear it, I feel foolish and fold it back up and out it away. Putting it on a tote from the Tory outlet doesn’t seem right and goodness knows it looks lame with my J. Crew dresses.

If I could afford it, I'd wear Armani all the time.

I have an Hermes scarf I wear with dresses and skirts from Modcloth. Married women routinely wear diamonds with their Old Navy finery.

It’s been so long since I really cared about my wardrobe, I don’t even know the current brands. I like Helmut Lang, Vince, and All Saints. I wear AE jeans. I think Armani, Chanel, and St John are elegant. If I could afford it and were a size 0, I’d dress like Fashion Jackson on Instagram. I think minimalist chic is elegant.

I love my Balenciaga shoes - the ones that look like socks. It’s hard to go back to wearing normal shoes/boots.

Love my Tod’s bag.

I wear Splendide and James Perse. I like tees and sweats. Off white. Love Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen.

My DH’s tailor always asks if I would like a custom tailored Chanel or St John style jacket and I always refuse. Not my style. Although next time we are in Asia, I am going to order a full length cashmere cape w/hood in black and another in red.

But the thing I am loving the most is my Tesla model S. Never loved a car so much and I am not a car person. Will get the Tesla Roadster too which will unseat the S as the fastest 0 to 60 of any production car ever at 1.9 sec.

I like Max Mara, Piazza Sempioni, Givenchy bags, Celine, subtle YSL, Akris, Sonia Rykiel, Reiss, Black Halo, Frame, Brunello Cucinelli (too $$$, but love the look), Ellie Tahari, Tahari, DVF, some Vince. Sezanne. Zadig and Voltaire. Shoes I like Stuart Weitzman. I also mix in Zara, a little J. Crew. Cars- I like Mercedes sedans and the smaller SUV and I like Jeeps. I love old Alfa Romeos. I could care less what car people drive. We use have had Mercedes for years and find them to be very good cars. We hold onto them 10-13 years. I also think someone can look very chic in thrift store clothes. It’s really more about the person than the clothing or brands.

You sound FABULOUS!
