OP owner of little dogs broke at least 3 laws

dogs off leash
dogs at large unattended
dogs aggressively pursuing other dogs and / or people

You can take Them to court for this as there are 3 violations.

The dogs' size has nothing to do with what occurred here. The off leash dogs attacked your dog.

Before you even have a chance to react, one of the little dogs jumps right into the face of your dog, which is ten times bigger, and your dog bites and very seriously injures the little dog.

Would you now consider your dog to be a dangerous dog?

I would not consider my dog to be "a dangerous dog." However, after two of three dogs who had previously gotten along for years got into a fight that ended in an expensive vet visit we were told by the vet that once a fight happens it's more likely to happen (and potentially escalate) again. We chose to keep those three apart during extended family get gatherings and always watched our dog more closely than we had before.

Sorry, you had to deal with this OP. My personal pet peeve is people who think that little dogs should be treated differently than big dogs--meaning letting them jump on people, bark non-stop or bite. Nope. Little dogs need the same discipline as a larger dog does.

Mine too. I'm a big dog person who believes in rigorous training to form a dog that is pleasant, obedient, and approachable. Some, *some* for everyone wanting to jump, small dog owners just flat out barely train and those little monsters drive me nuts. Ripping around a room on and off couches and chairs, jumping, barking, and my favorite, "she bites but it doesn't hurt much." NOT acceptable.

I’m on team bigdog but, all experiences come into play with your animal. The big dog may be far more wary and intolerant of future encounters with small loud creatures. This is especially important pertaining to kids. Be very very aware of the next few meetings your dog has with strangers of any breed to make sure your dog isn’t learning to react first.

A dog attacked your dog and your dog defended itself. That is natural.

We train our small dogs to come and not leave the yard

I have had this sort of thing happen on multiple occasions. We've been walking down the middle of the street and out of nowhere a little dog will coming running at my dog and jump on her. Once, a small dog came running at us and was actually biting my dog's legs. I have 3 dogs - golden, pit mix and a GSD - and this has happened to all three of them over the years. Thankfully, I was able to lead my dogs away from the little dogs in every instance. Sadly, I no longer walk my dogs because of those irresponsible small dog owners. I don't want startling incidents like these to create fear/reactive problems with my own dogs.

Keep them in your fenced back yard.

You tell yourself that, but you really need a physical fence if you are letting your dogs out in the yard without you.

Would be a little wary and cautious at first, that your dog might do that again

I'm concerned that most people seem to think this is a normal reaction from a big dog. I've had several little dogs race up to my 75-lb German Shepherd over the years... they were barking, snarling, snapping, espcially one particularly nasty little Jack Russell. But my dog did nothing more than move back while I yelled and shoved the dogs away with my foot. I would be absolutely horrified if he had injured (let alone seriously injured) another dog.

It does not matter who trained them, dogs are not 100% reliable any more than children are. A fence will at least slow down another dog, coyote, fox, raccoon or whatever. A fence will probably keep a passerby from panicking and pepper spraying (or worse) your dog. A fence will keep your unsupervised dog from getting distracted and wandering into the road.
