We train our small dogs to come and not leave the yard
You tell yourself that, but you really need a physical fence if you are letting your dogs out in the yard without you.
Our dogs are professionally trained
It does not matter who trained them, dogs are not 100% reliable any more than children are. A fence will at least slow down another dog, coyote, fox, raccoon or whatever. A fence will probably keep a passerby from panicking and pepper spraying (or worse) your dog. A fence will keep your unsupervised dog from getting distracted and wandering into the road.
