| Hi, it’s Karen, and I want to speak to your manager! |
Good post, although I'd add some cautions. Making assumptions about your appearance somehow factoring into the dynamic may stroke your ego, but it's likely to be wrong, and also likely to undermine your negotiating strategy. Set your ego aside and pay attention to what's actually happening, not what you want to believe is happening, and you'll be in a better negotiating position. Keep your ego out of negotiations, and you'll do well. |
Cool story bro. |
How is this sexist? It sounds like you did not get what you wanted but it’s not sexist. It happens at car dealerships all the time and to both sexes. The best way to “take down” the sale manager is to go to another dealership. They just care about selling cars and profits. Your complaint will be placed into the over flowing complaint file. |
How is losing a sale putting money in your pocket? I don’t buy or refer people to dishonest dealers like you. |
It is so much better to buy a car online. I researched which dealerships had the most volume selling cars. I emailed them and two other dealerships and said this is what I want, what is the best price. I did it toward end of month and end of quarter. Dealership with high volume had best offer. Looked online to verify fair price. Emailed again and said I was paying cash. I was in and out with new car without any hassle. |
I forgot to add I had to drive 90 minutes to get car and I asked for a complete - "out the door" quote. |
It’s absolutely worth it to provide feedback to his supervisors. If his behavior is losing the dealership custom, they need to know about it. |

LOL.
To the OP, good luck. You are assuming that this behavior is somehow unique to you because you are a woman. While you do get better service at say a Mercedes dealer, all of the other common brands behave the same: they lie and cheat in anyway they can. Some of the larger national chains like AutoNation is a bit better, but the smaller family owned local chains are the worst. It's nothing personal, they are not doing this because they don't like you, or that you are a woman. They don't care about you, at all. They have neither the energy nor the will to be rude to you purely because you are a woman. Your womanness is not worth their effort. They don't care. Their actions are done for one and only one purpose: to extract maximum dollars from the sale. Aside from that, they don't give a damn. The factories also don't give a damn unless the dealers has dealt fraudulently with them - not because they mistreated a customer. So get over yourself, realize that this is just how dealers work, and is the reason why companies like CarMax and Carvana can exist. If you don't like it, go pay more money for a car at one of those no-haggle dealers. |
| Blame it on the ism. |
