I think it depends on the region. In Virginia the teams are NPL teams. SO they are the top team for those clubs because none of those clubs have actual ECNL teams. Some of those teams do have DA teams for the older ages so in the older age groups it may be a teams 2nd team. In the Northeast (Maryland and Pennsylvania) they are ECNL 2 so they are the second ECNL team for those clubs. |
Yes. But the difference is that the local NPL teams are "Regional ECNL" (which in itself is meaningless). ECNL2 is an expansion of "true" ECNL to allow the inclusion of 2nd teams. Regional ECNL is not equal to ECNL2 |
| So there is ecnl regional and ecnl 2? |
No, there is ECNL and regional ECNL. ECNL2 is not an actual term in any meaningful way. The regular ECNL in some areas awarded a few clubs a second ECNL team if they would drop the DA. So you can call that "ECNL2" if you like. Then there is regional ECNL which is NPL. The top winner of the NPL will be allowed in the bottom bracket of ECNL showcases. Don't get your hopes up for college coaches. Do get your wallet out for showcase expenses and airfare. |
No. "ECNL 2" does not exist--it's ECNL Regional league. A handful of clubs have 2 ECNL and 2 ECNL Regional teams per age group (FC Stars (Blue and White) and PDA (Blue and White) in the Northeast division). |
FC Stars and PDA each have 2 ECNL teams per age group (Blue and White). These teams operate like separate clubs. Players cannot move between Blue and White during the year (just like you couldn't move from one ECNL club to another during the year without a waiver from the league). They play in the same division and play against each other just like they would any other club. |
Interesting. That is a little extreme since they *are* the same club. It's just that there is an A and a B team. The rest I already knew. |
Are the 2 teams tiered? DO they spread the talent equally between the 2 teams or are they an A and a B team? |
Definitely an A and B team- they do not spread the talent between the two. top players on A, and then the next set on B |
The 2nd team ECNL has been referred to unofficially ECNL2. Regional ECNL is nothing more than NPL renamed. There’s nothing elite about it and it’s certainly NOT worthy of being called ECNL2. |
| Some clubs have 2 top tier ecnl teams, how has that happened |
So PDA has 2 ECNL teams and 2 ECNL2 teams? |
Its the B teams- and many that have not been associated with NP ever. |
PDA, yes. |
They had a DA team and an ECNL team. The ECNL offered them an extra ECNL team if they would drop the DA. |
