Montessori international in Annapolis has a bus from Bowie.
I think indian creek may have one too. |
| Silver Oaks Cooperative School (K-5) is nearby in Adelphi. www.silveroakscooperative.org. |
| Not PG county but also not a bad drive into Virginia - we commute to The River Farm Cooperative School . It takes me 17 min to get my kid there in traffic. Bad traffic and its 25 min . |
| None that I Can think of. I know people love HT, but I hear the students are terrible in math. |
Math and reading actually. So bad that my son who is currently in 2nd grade, I tried to test him into a new a school for next year because of a few things and he did horrible in math and reading. We been there since kindergarten. Not as good as we once thought. This is our sons last year. |
| I would look in SS or Aspen Hill to widen the net. |
|
These are the three I looked at too because I was looking for the same as you.
Ended up touring and ranking HT, FCS, and Calverton. All are very very lightly religious or non-religious. All strong schools. Poster from 03/08/2020 18:43 - where are you choosing to go for next year? Sorry to hear this about HT - indeed worrisome. Let us know. It's so hard given distance learning now - especially if it continues into the fall. Hard decisions. |
The Key School has done great at distance learning IMO. Worth the bussing. |
Poster from 3/8/20 - We chose a school in DC after realizing most of the schools on PG are religious and basically just a slight step up from public. After speaking to parents at Holy Trinity (alot of which whose children will not be returning) and visiting again, I was not impressed. The admissions lady did alot of boasting and bragging but when asked about academics and curriculum, she somehow ended up talking about how prestigious the school was and the "it" people (assistant district attorney, etc.) who was attending. |
Yes! Same vibe we got from her. They are holding on to an old reputation it seems. She really rubbed me the wrong way and I was not at all impressed with the early childhood program. We found it so odd that we weren’t allowed to enter the classrooms. The teacher actually told us on the tour that they had so few students enrolled for the preschool program that she didn’t even know if there would be a class this year. So many red flags. |
Right. They took us in the library. Then for the assessment, we had to wait in the library again and they took the children out. Apparently they have a new head of lower school and when I asked about the curriculum, she said it is the curriculum of the head of Daisy Lane school. Yea, we will pass! |

Wow this is good to know about HT. I work downtown DC and my husband works in VA. We were going to enroll our child in the K3 class for next school year, but decided to keep him in daycare for another year because he is thriving where he is. As it stands, we decided to enroll our child in the pre-k4 class the following school year. After hearing about HT in this manner, we are now reconsidering. We would love to send him to a non-religious private school but we live in Upper Marlboro so FCS is out of the question and sending him to school in Anne Arundel wouldn’t make sense for our commute.
Does anyone know anything about Excellence Christian School? |
I'm in Upper Marlboro as well. I live around the corner from ECS. I visited for the 2019/2020. I didn't like the fact the classrooms for PreK thru 2nd or 3rd are in the bottom of the school which reminds me of a basements. The classrooms have no windows and carpet. That was it for me. I did as you did, I kept my kid in daycare. This year she is eligible for PreK-4 and were going to send her to Catholic but my husband really wants a non-religious school. So with my flexibility at work, I will home school and revisit for Kindergarten. That being said, I have no clue what we will do for kindergarten. *smh* |
| Thank you so much for your reply. It looks like Excellence is out too. No windows is a definite deal breaker for us. |
| I called Excellence 2 times last year for a tour and never received anything from them, not a call, not an email...NOTHING! |
