We're also a family of 5 with a Model X and we absolutely love it. No issues with the doors and hitting our heads, at least not on any kind of regular basis. They have better clearance than pretty much any other doors out there, and it makes getting kids in car seats super easy, because we don't need to bend over or lean in. Having the automatic doors is one of the best features, IMO, since we can open them remotely by pressing a button. We're spoiled for non-automatic doors! If you have other questions about the X, PP, feel free to ask. We got it when we had our third kid and needed a bigger car, and we've been so happy with the purchase. When our second car kicks the bucket, we'll probably get a 3, possibly a Y depending on the timing. |
That is good to hear, thanks! Do you find for the kids sitting in the back row, it's comfortable for them? We are in the car a lot driving around to various activities. |
| Wait, you can't coast in a Tesla? Does that get annoying? Hard to readjust to driving that way? |

I don't get the range thing. We have an electric car with only 35 miles of range (Chevy Volt..which does have a backup engine to generate more power) and the battery runs empty very rarely. Most of our driving is around town, and it's just not a lot of miles to do school pickup, grocery runs, etc. We charge it every night when arriving home. It keeps stats, and it only had to use the engine 2% of the time last year...probably we had a run to Dulles or something like that.
So a Telsa with 250mile range should be no problem at all. Now road trips are a different issue, but at least for us, that's only 2x a year at most. |
Yes, it's plenty comfortable, although they're young still. But taller kids can comfortably sit in the second row and smaller ones in the third row. We've gone on plenty of road trips with it and they're all happy (and we'd stop for a break for them about as often as we need to charge, so it works out well). |

We live in Georgetown and own the S and the model 3 long range. Before we drove a Prius and Mercedes.
I suggest test driving one. After we drove one, we never looked back. Absolutely amazing cars and the regular automatic software updates continue to add many great features and value. Once you experience a road trip using auto steer, it is truly a life changing experience! Range has never been an issue. At least not in the DC area. We typically charge each car once a week. A 220 volt outlet is more than sufficient. Started with the S p100 and recently purchased the model 3. We actually prefer the model 3 over the S. Even though the acceleration and insane mode are not as powerful as the S, the model 3 still has unbelievable acceleration and performance compared to any other gas car. Love the interior and minimal styling. As a general rule, buying Tesla is like buying an Apple product - the newer products tend to have the better design and tech. Go and test drive one. Personally, I have never met someone that doesn’t love the driving experience. |
