We've had a Model X for a couple of years now and we just ordered a Model 3. Our Model 3 will actually have longer range than the X (we got the highest level option). It's basic but I really love the simplicity of the interior design. The only premium features our X has that are not on the 3 are the automatic doors and heated steering wheel. May be a few other things I don't recall now. I should add that I HATE the falcon doors on the X! Pain in the butt and everyone hits their heads on them all the time. There is a Y model coming out next year that is a smaller version of the X and with normal doors. We may trade in the X for the Y. We'll see. You do have to plan for charging if you're going long distance and it definitely adds time to road trips. But Tesla keeps adding more super chargers and faster ones that can cut the charging time in half. DH is keen on never having to buy gas again, and nothing drives like a Tesla. We love them.
Not OP, but this is helpful, thank you. I am thinking of getting a Tesla X since we are a family of 5 and I could use the extra room, but I was wondering about those falcon doors and if they are a pain, and looks like they are. Maybe I should wait it out for the Y, although I'm going to need a family car sooner than later.
We're also a family of 5 with a Model X and we absolutely love it. No issues with the doors and hitting our heads, at least not on any kind of regular basis. They have better clearance than pretty much any other doors out there, and it makes getting kids in car seats super easy, because we don't need to bend over or lean in. Having the automatic doors is one of the best features, IMO, since we can open them remotely by pressing a button. We're spoiled for non-automatic doors! If you have other questions about the X, PP, feel free to ask. We got it when we had our third kid and needed a bigger car, and we've been so happy with the purchase. When our second car kicks the bucket, we'll probably get a 3, possibly a Y depending on the timing.
That is good to hear, thanks! Do you find for the kids sitting in the back row, it's comfortable for them? We are in the car a lot driving around to various activities.
Yes, it's plenty comfortable, although they're young still. But taller kids can comfortably sit in the second row and smaller ones in the third row. We've gone on plenty of road trips with it and they're all happy (and we'd stop for a break for them about as often as we need to charge, so it works out well).
