Update regarding Ukranian adopted daughter (now with Indiana family)

Wouldn't that make her 17/18 today? Wouldn't she age out of the system?

I think he disability gets her more time - maybe until 21

Wait, so people can adopt from foreign countries and then somehow these poor kids become wards of our state? Or as the other thread calls them, public charges and in our system forever?

The adoptive parents should have to pay a fine, similar to people who start forest fires.

They were the second family. The very first adoption fell through, then the family with the autistic child adopted her. Then another family camr forward but backed oout at the last minute. This new family is the fourth (unless there were more).

This is not the 4th family. This is the 3rd. They attempted to get guardianship but withdrew the petition when the court ruled that she was an adult (For the 2nd time). She is still living with them.

This really is a bizarre story. Seeing the new adoptive family with all those young children and then hearing the tales from the first adoptive family...wow. I sure hope everything works out in her placement with them.

International adoptees become citizens when they are adopted by US parents (this was not the case prior to 2002). So yes a citizen is entitled to public benefits if warranted.

It's not safe for those other adopted kids to live with her.

WTF? They didn't know they were "adopting" a mentally-ill adult.

This story needs its own documentary.

The article states a second court ruling upheld her adult age. Definitely an adult who wishes to be cared for like a child. Hope she gets the mental health services she obviously needs.

But doesn’t she need an adoption agency? How did she end up in the system such that she could even be adopted?

This girl really was born in 2003. Her biological mother is 40, having been born in 1979.
I can't believe her adoptive parents got away with child abuse and abandoment just because they're rich and can afford good lawyers.
Shame.

Those kids are in danger. Where is child welfare

So she’s 20 now and still getting adopted?
