We drive our EV about 3500 miles/year. It’s perfect for how we use it. Most people have a second car that can be used for road trips. For longer trips we drive our Volt and it only gets driven about 5500 miles/year. |
OP Nothing really against Tesla's as they seem really nice. It just seems high end for me, someone who doesn't drive much (weekday about 5 miles/day, weekends may be 50 or so/day). So I was looking for something at a lower cost level. |
Teslas certainly do have battery coolant, and I would guess a pump to circulate it, and seals and hoses that could leak. |
Don't be disingenuous. It's much simpler to maintain than an ICE car. It's not that they're no maintenance, but generally, yes, they are easier to maintain. |

Of course we do. But the Tesla Supercharger network is fantastic. Still takes longer to drive an EV than an ICE for long distances, but it's not that bad. I drove up to Maine this summer, and we had to stop two times for 15 minutes and once for 30 (lunch stop) to get there. They're in the process of rolling out newer chargers that will change the top charging speed from around 600 mph to 1000 as well, so it's gonna get even better. |

Really? All the used Tesla 3s I see online are priced in the mid to upper $40k range. Are you saying you can get a Tesla new for under $40k before tax credit? (I assume you mean tax credit, unless Tesla does offer rebates?) |
The SR+ is $38,900. I think tax credits will still knock 1K off, and if Maryland gets around to re-authorizing their rebate, it's another 3K. |
Yes. Price out a new Tesla 3. The prices have dropped, and new is priced less than used. The white color standard range plus rear wheel drive is $38,990. The federal tax credit is $1,875 thru the end of the year. We bought in VA so no additional tax breaks. |
