Do I really need to buy special postpartum underwear?

What I hated were those NASTY pads that the hospital gives you. Why?! They make such nice, thin pads now that absorb extremely well. What's up with the ginormous pads that don't absorb? Mine were so big i almost waddled. Overnight pads from Target worked 10x better and they actually absorbed. They were like baby diapers from 1960 (before gel beads).

Agree, BUT, those big thick hospital pads were not nice to stick in my underwear across the C-section incision!

I had a C, and was not a fan of the mesh underwear. It magnified the whole swamp a$$ feeling of being postpartum in late summer. Plus I couldn’t get any pad to stick. Before I gave birth I bought a couple bags of cotton Hanes granny panties and they worked perfectly.

THIS but you will bleed for another month or so, so just get extra pads for home. Light is fine.

The bleeding so true for a VBAC but probably not for a c section since they tend to clean you out. I was basically done bleeding by the time I left the hospital and only needed a panty liner for maybe a week after I got home. I also wore the mesh undies for the first week and then just ordered high waisted Hanes granny panties for like $6 for an 8 pack at Target. The special c section undies look nice but I 1000% did not care to look sexy for the first month or so and didn’t see a point in paying the extra money to mostly veg out at home in comfy nursing-friendly clothes anyways.

I hated the disposable mesh underwear. It felt uncomfortable and, this is going to sound dumb, to medical. Once I left the hospital I wanted to be in my own clothes, real clothes, including underwear.

I loved these I got on Amazon. Soft, comfy, dark colors, and cheap. They run big, so go true to normal size.

+1

I bought those cheap Hanes granny panties too with the expectation I would only wear them for the first few weeks. 8 months later, they are so comfortable and all I want to wear. My poor husband!

Mesh and maternity should get you through the early days.

I loved Depends. I got a huge pack and changed them regularly. Was way more comfy than pads. It’s wasteful but I figured for a couple weeks, whatever...

I also did not like the hospital mesh underwear. I bought high waisted “granny style” underwear and that worked really well for both of my c-sections. I also didn’t like the pads from the hospital (too thick) so bought my own as well.

OP here. Maybe a few months after my c section I started wearing yummi heather compression underwear. I still have them a few years later.
I love them!
