This is idiotic. I am from the West Coast. There are many Asians in the private schools. The majority in my high school. |
| Simple answer on Potomac is about 2 per class, as with other "minorities", though the broad definition of Asians and blacks, as in not necessarily 2 African Americans, but one African American/one Ethiopian. One Korean/one East Indian. They do work to make sure you're kid is not the only one physically, though not sure they get the cultural nuances, but it's a start. The after-school affinity groups have disbanded a bit but may be coming back. |
| Sidwell is chosen by many Asian families |
If you want 30%+ asians in your class e.g.5 or 6 asian kids out of a class size of 15-18 kids, you will need to look at private schools in western fairfax county - that area is more like the bay area in terms of demographic composition of private school kids. The adults can commute to DC |

| You will always find Asian families at the most academically elite privates such as the ones you name. There are also many at STA and NCS. My kids at Potomac and the Cathedral schools have large numbers of classmates/friends who are SE Asian and a few who are Indian. |

I can't speak to preK / K, so maybe my post is irrelevant, but Sidwell upper school has a ton of Asian and bi-racial Asian kids. Both east and south Asian.
As I sit in the pickup & drop off lines, I have noticed a lot of Virginia plate cars dropping off teens who appear to be east Asian. Don't know where all the many south Asian kids live; guess they're not in drop off line at the same time I am. |
| Actually I am going to disagree. Many DC schools have great diversity when it comes to African American kids. Potomac has true diversity. My daughter’s class is very very diverse with many ethnic backgrounds. So many in fact that you don’t have pockets of races just interacting with themselves. Everything is so diverse that you pick a friend for being a friend and not based on skin color. This is a good thing. I don’t Like everything with the school but I do like that. |
| It’s about 8% for both Sidwell and GDS. |
I'd like to see some data here. Many schools have a good number of African American students? Actual racial composition of Potomac School? I maintain that it is especially important in DC to have strong African American enrollment due to the racial composition of our city. It is not that it is unimportant to have Asian students in the school, of course not. But it is important to note the percent of our population that is Asian when debating this. |
Isn’t there already a thread on this? |
According to niche Potomac is about 65% white. |
| Considering us census 2010 had the US population at 73 percent white. That would seem on target. |
|
Not sure on test of breakdown but again it seems
like Potomac has true diversity at least on ethnicity. Not sure in economics but hopefully there is diversity there. We would not know because we don’t ask anyone how much money they have. |
This notion of "true" diversity will not serve you well. I recommend you ditch it. |
